So just the other week I was commenting on another post on WB about whether or not someone’s ring was too small because the poster was self-conscious.
My ring is 1/3 karat princess cut, and I was self-conscious at first, too. But, nobody ever made comments about it, and I got used to the size. I’ve been feelin’ good about it for more than a year now until a customer made a comment about it today.
I’m not sure if she meant anything by it, and she seemed nice, but it still sucked.
Her: Ooh that’s a pretty ring.
Her: Is it a promise ring?
Me: No. Engagement ring.
OK, for real? 🙁 Who does that? Even if she didn’t mean to be mean, it’s just rude.

ugghhhh – yeah, the stone size standard/expectation seems to be getting bigger and bigger these days but not everyone wants a big stone

People don’t think before they talk. 🙁

People are dumb.
Don’t let it get you down!
I had a stone that was less than .25 carats for my first marriage. And I had a couple of people ask me that, too. I just said, it sure is! it’s a promise that our wedding in March will be awesome.
Usually shut them up 😉

@eloping:I know wth. I shouldn’t feel bad because I don’t want to put us into debt for a ring. Someday I might upgrade, but the wedding itself is expensive enough.

Brush it off doll. I’m sure you’re ring is gorgeous!! She was just being a d*ck…and yes, some people absolutely do not think before they speak.

ugh that sucks. people seriously need to think before they speak!

I’m sorry you had this experience. I know plenty plenty plenty of women with 1/5, 1/4, 1/3 & 1/2 carat rings & some even under, like .15 or .10 its whatever the wearer loves & that’s all that matters. People expect bigger stones sometimes because maybe they expect to be given a bigger stone, but don’t let that get you down. Not everyone wants a bigger stone, I didn’t! & I’m sure your ring is gorgeous!!!!!! 🙂 But you know maybe she just asked because she hadn’t heard of your engagement & though if you was engaged she would have heard? Once you wear your wedding band with it I’m sure that will never happen again. My ring is 1/5th carat marquise. & I actually picked it over a .50 princess cut! Hubby was surprised I’m sure! LOL I don’t think it looks like a promise ring at all & I wouldn’t ever ask someone if it was a promise ring no matter how “small.” Anytime I see someone post a new pic on facebook of a ring on their wedding finger I ask if someone is hearing wedding bells in the near future? lol Here is my 1/5th carat marquise precious on a white gold band & my 4mm plain white gold wedding band. 🙂

@thewheelsonthebus:haha! If I thought she was being malicious I might have snapped at her, but I think beekiss is right: she didn’t think before she said it.
Either way, I still feel kinda craptastic.

that does suck! I agree with the other posters– don’t let it get you down!

I was asked that the other day too, mine is not small but it is a sapphire.
I just shrugged it off, all is good.
@everyone: Thanks 🙂 I do feel better now

Sometimes size doesn’t matter… Someone looked at my ring and asked “Is that really your engagement ring?” WTF is that supposed to mean? lol. To top it off they had a disgusted look on their face… =S
Post # 15
I’m sorry, whoever said that to you was totally rude and IGNORANT. 🙁 How terrible!
Oh wow. People have no idea what they’re saying and how it makes others feel!
I’m so sorry 🙁 don’t let it make you feel any different about your e-ring! If you love it, that’s all that matters!
