Hey Ladies!!! :)
I have been reading the boards for awhile now, but this is my first post! (YAY!) The big day is just a few months away (holy crap!) and I had my first fitting the other night. I should be excited, but I am just not feeling it. :( I bought the dress in August and now I feel like it isn't the right one. I also am having some issues with back fat overflowing. I have asked my friends, my dad, but I feel like they are all required to be nice.
Bee ( I couldn’t’ help it!) honest with me!!! Is it bad?
I think that the bodice might be a little tight but I don't see an overflow of back fat.
yes, I agree, the bodice does look a tad tight. and I kinda see what you mean about the back fat issue. do you plan on doing anything about it? because if you dont (and there's nothing wrong with that) than there is no use stressing over it!! :(
Welcome to WB!
I think everyone second guesses their dress choice at some point - esp when looking at so many blogs and inspiration pics. It's hard not to find another dress that you love.
If you are having a hard time breathing or moving in your dress, just have the seamstress let out the top a little. No biggie. But it doesn't look like you have back fat!
Looks great! The top might me a little tight, but I don't see and back fat overflowing.
MissAsB - I agree! That is a whole level of frustration in itself! I paid extra for a custom measurement so it would fit properly, I am down two sizes from when I ordered, and the store owner insists that I did get it and that is just how the dress is made, and won't do anything. GRRR!
It looks a little snug from the back- however, I do not see "back fat".
I had the same thing happen to me when I was a bridesmaid in my brother's wedding- my dress came in and was snug around the top/back. I think you could have your seamstress let it out a little on the top so that it's more comfortable for you, but I still think your dress is lovely.
I don't see an excess of back fat, but the bodice does look a bit tight up top. What does the front look like?
I think that if it wasn't so tight near the top...you wouldnt be seeing the effect of skin going over the top....It's like...literally indenting into your skin...I think once it's a tab looser it will be great! I love your dress btw.
I don't see back fat really...what LOOKS off is under the line of the dress, the ruching looks very tight and puckered...can it be let out at all?
I don't see back fat! I think it looks great! :) Don't stress, its not worth it!
It looks a bit small at the top but I certainly don't see any back fat to be concerned with. Is it comfortable? I think they need to let it out a bit so you'll be comfortable and that should alleviate the cutting in appearance.
If you're uncomfortable you should tell them (and be insistent). The dress is really pretty, but you don't want to be uncomfortable all evening.
I dont see any back fat...it just looks a tad bit small. I would see if they could let it out a bit...but if they cant..I wouldnt sweat it at all
Your dress is gourgeous from the back...I wish we could see front.
I agree that it may also be a bit tight and I think it's just where the dress sits. I don't see fat, I think it is your shoulder bone. The dress sits directly under the shoulder bone.
I think we all have doubts about our dresses. I am worried about my fat in my dress but it's really not that bad. It's just something that bugs me and like the worker said to me, "if people are gonna be staring at your back fat they have a problem."
I think your dress is beautiful! But I agree with the girls - the bodice is a little snug, but I think "overflow of backfat" is a little dramatic. You look great!
That's so frustrating that they won't do anything about it! You would think they would want to keep their customers happy and fix it.
First off - Welcome to WB!! :)
Girl, if that's what you call backfat come on over - I'll show you what back fat looks like!! LOL I don't think it looks snug, but that could be the picture. Like a PP said - I think it's the design of the ruching that's making it look off.
Are you uncomfortable IN the dress (not just about how you think it looks) I mean is it hard to breath, move, dance? Do you think a kickass pair of Spanx-like undergarments would help (I feel like material against material hangs better)? If not - can they let it out a bit? If they refuse can you find another tailor that will do it for a reasonable fee?
Thanks ladies! :) I REALLY appreciate your honesty! I know they love me, but I wasn't getting honest (which is what I want) answers from those around me. :)
Here is a picture of the front.
Dancy905 - I do have my spanx on in that picture. :(
PS - Please dis-regard the end of day hair and make-up.
I think it's beautiful! I agree with the others that the bodice seems a bit tight. I LOVE the front of it!
You look beautiful in the dress. It might be a little bit tight, but there isn't any back fat. If you are wearing a veil when you walk down the aisle it won't be visible at all. Great dress!!
I think your dress looks great. If I were a guest at your wedding, I would just see a lovely bride and a beautiful dress.
Yes, if we scrutinize the photo of your back after you tell us that you're worried about fit we might see it. But I think if you look at it objectively you won't concerned.
Your dress is beautiful front and back. I do not see an overflow of back fat, keep the dress and you will be a stunning bride!
Honestly, no..I don't see "back fat" in the pictures...
But....
I was concerned about having it too. I was reassured by everyone that I did not have a "muffin top." I wore the dress, even though I disagreed. Then came picture choosing time! I hated more than 1/2 my pictures because of my (real or imagined) back fat. People still disagree, but as a bride, my opinion matters the most!
Do what you are most comfortable with.
Hey there fellow St. Louisian =]
I think you are fine but the dress looks a little tight; nothing an alteration won't fix. You aren't by any means overflowing.
If it REALLY bugs you, you can wear a bolero or...you have 2 months. Go heavy duty on your upper back work outs! I started doing a LOT of upper body rows, fly exercises, and push ups and was really surprised how tone my back got in 8 weeks. At least enough that i didn't freak about back fat. I was pretty shocked when I saw my dress on me for the first time and vowed to fix that asap.
Boy aren't we all irrational about back fat, lol.
My opinion: It just doesn't look like its pulled up enough. Your chest area looks a lil uneven and low (the fabric not your boobs). As soon as its altered everything will probably be pulled up and look great, back and front.
What bra are you planning to wear?
As far as the dress not being the right one, I totally disagree! I love the dress. Especially the fabric flower!
You definitely don't have overflowing back fat! I think your back/shoulders look great in the dress and I love the buttons down the back.
But you've got enough time to hit the gym if it'll make you feel more confident. Or even just doing pushups every day would add tone.
I love the dress!!! the front is beautiful and the back isn't overflowing...although I do agree it is a bit tight! I think going to the gym would really help...even though you don't have a lot of time, going even just twice a week helps so much more then you'd think. Or even doing the 30 day Shred or a similar video at home.
I don't think it's a matter of you actually having excessive back fat. I think the bodice is too tight and needs to be let out a little so it's not pinching you in and creating the "overflow" so to speak.
I think you look great. You will be a beautiful bride. But if you are still not feeling comfortable, try to have another go at the owner.
I think half of my frustration is that I have been going to the gym for 1.5 - 2 hours 4 days a week doing cardio and focusing on shoulders, I am down from a 12 to an 8 from when I bought the darn thing with custom measurements then.
The store owner pretty much is blowing me off. :( The b-maid dresses came in messed up too and nothing was done about that, and my fitting was rushed through. I am not a happy bride about this store at ALL!
You ladies rock!!! I truly appreciate the honestly and that the dress is at least pretty, it just doesn't fit well. This sucks!
I'm just going to add my two cents and agree with almost everyone else here...I think the problem you're having/seeing is that the top of the dress might be a little too tight. (And are you kidding about back fat? Your family isn't just being nice...you don't have any.) It's totally a (fixable) problem with the dress...not you!
No. Your dress looks fine to me. If you feel that it is too tight, try to tone up your arms and upper back.
When I was trying on dresses, the girl at Davids Bridal showed me a secrect. If you are wearing one of those things that holds you in under your dress, have someone go from the bottom of the bra thing and pull your "back fat" down into the bra. It works. I had this problem as well. But yours isn't that bad at all. It should work. Hope I explained it good enough
i think it's more a problem with the dress than you!!
does it feel uncomfortable? maybe they can make the bodice a lil bit more loose??
i LOVE your bustle and your button backing... it's beauitful!
