I’ve never heard that it is, but here’s the scenario: I’m trying to get our thank you cards printed, and I was really struck by the new iPhoto letterpress cards. (Clearly we won’t be ordering a baby card, we’d want our photo with some sort of a border or design around it, but here’s one from their site for example)
I don’t have a Mac and iPhoto won’t run on a PC, so I decided to put an Alchemy request on Etsy looking for someone who could do something similar for me. Reasonable right? So a vendor responds saying she wouldn’t print a photo on the front of the card, and that we should do a monogram instead. I responded by asking why not, thinking it had something to do with paper type or lining things up. I told her that our monogram sort of spelled something funny, so I’d prefer not to go that way, I was really looking for a photo with the letterpress frame similar to iPhoto, but that I was hoping to order from someone smaller rather than a large coporate entity.
Then she sends me a message back saying that Apple’s not an etiquette expert, and that they’re selling products. She then goes on to say I should go to high end paper shops and have a look at what they’re selling and I’ll see that they don’t offer ONE thank you card with a photo on the front. So basically she’s saying that by sending out a thank you card with a photo from our wedding on it I’m a horribly tacky person (that’s right, I’m putting the T word out there). Um what?! I love getting a photo on a thank you card, they go on my fridge!!! And if I didn’t get a photo, I’d probably be really sad! I’m a little bit offended by her email but at the same time, laughing at her a bit. Has anyone else heard of this rule for thank you cards?!

Umm, no. I’ve never heard this. And if we hadn’t already ordered our thank you cards for our wedding, a picture of us would certainly be going on the front!
She’s a goof. Do what you want!

She is wonktastic. I LOVE thank you cards with pictures on the front! HELLO new fridge decoration!?

HEck no its not tacky!
BTW, I have an apple and iPhoto, do you want me to try to see if I can make you something? (No charge, of course!)

I’ve never heard of that! I’ve seen lots of people do photo thank you cards and never once thought it was bad ettiquette. I don’t see why it would be???

Okay so thank you. I sort of want to email her back and tell her to check her rude insinuations at the door, especially when dealing with someone who potentially is looking to give you business!!!! Not any more sista!

She may take herself a little too seriously….
And as much as I like the photo thank you card, I love the idea of a Thank you card with a random picture of someone else’s baby even more.
Does that make me a messed up person?

I guess she didn’t want you business.
My favourite Thank you cards have photo’s on the front.
And mine did too – we took a pic specifically for our thank you cards:

She is delusional – I have gotten several thank you cards, including one from a wedding I went to in October, with a picture on it.
I LOVE this idea. I would cherish this much more than a standard thank you card.

@nmsoonerbride: HAHA too funny. My mom had one of those multiple matted picture frames up on the wall for awhile with the original pics in it, she always said it was her perfect family 😀

There’s nothing wrong with a photo thank you card. Though I have seen cases where people send just the photo thank you card with a generic printed message (without a personalized note inside). That would not be ok. But a photo card with a personal note on the inside is perfectly fine.

i have never heard that. people love getting wedding pictures; why not put it on the card!

I sure hope its not, our definitely have a picture of us on it! I think people like seeing the pictures after the fact!

@nmsoonerbride: LOL!!! Okay, off topic for a sec. This year I found some REALLY nice Christmas cards at the dollar store. I opened up a pack and realized that they came with some Christmas type vellum, etc to fancy them up. Okie dokie. So I pull the cards out, and about 3 down I find this card already assembled:
I have no idea if these people are “supposed to” come with the cards as an example of how you can assemble them, or if someone did one, didn’t like them, and returned them, LOL! We’re going to send it to one of DH’s groomsmen a a joke 😉
@Belle2Be: You would be my hero!!!! There’s no info online about what styles and options they offer, it’s making me nuts! I was honestly about to go to the Apple store to try it on one of their computers!!! I’ll PM you 🙂

I think that the pictures like Mrs. Trail Mix and other Bees have used on their thank you cards are absolutely adorable! I would love to receive that!
