I have been having a tough time finding the perfect jewelery to go with my dress. So i went to an expensive-beyond my budget-never should have stepped foot in there – type of store today because i heard they rent jewelery at a fraction of the cost they sell it for.
and boy did i find something i LOVE – earrings AND a necklace that are just perfect! So for what would typically cost $489 plus tax, i can rent it for $122.25 (25% of the total cost).
but is it crazy to spend that much only to WEAR jewelery that you don’t get to keep? i mean i was willing to spend around $100 on my wedding jewelery, but i guess i thought i would be keeping it too. but i love love loved it!
let me know what you think, thanks! i’ll add a poll too.

I think the idea is kind of cool, but the price seems pretty steep. If they were charging 100ish to rent 1000 worth of jewelry it would seem like a lot better deal to me.

whoops i voted yes because i didn’t read the question. i meant no.

@emilygrace07: so you think i should do it?

I don’t think it’s crazy at all. I think it makes perfect sense. And if it’s what you really want- go for it!

I say if you love it go for it.

I would totally do it if I could find a place that would do it. For your particular situation though, that price seems so close to what you were planning on paying to own the jewelry, so you should just own it. good luck with whatever you decide.

My friend actually spent like $1500 on wedding jewelry, she looked AMAZING and they really were the perfect accesories, but she has yet to wear any of that stuff again. She can’t bring herself to sell them b/c of what she paid but she’s said she’ll probably never wear them again. I say rent if you found something perfect.

For my wedding in India, my necklace and earrings were rented for our ceremony. Super big, fancy gold Indian jewelry is SUPER expensive (I’m talking in the thousands for just a piece or two) so there was no way we were going to purchase it because I wouldn’t wear it again. I say go for it!! But I’m biased. 🙂

Go for it! I just think of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman when she gets to wear that beatiful necklace!

@PurpleUnicorn yep I totally think it’s worth it. I actually considered doing that myself.

@souliganprincess: ya, i do kind of wish it was less than $100, then i would be more inclined to do it. i would love to own them too like you said, but i absolutely cannot spend $500! going over $100 is pushing it.
maybe i could just rent the necklace (original price = $360 + tax, rental = $90 no tax) and then find earrings to match. because really it was the necklace that was out of this world AMAZING. the earring just matched perfectly and were gorgeous. but maybe i could find something similar elsewhere. also, i would be more likely to wear the earrings again, the necklace – maybe if got married again, but i don’t plan to!

I don’t think it’s crazy. If there is a beautiful piece that will compliment your dress it would be worth it to rent….
