Is it easy for you to get ahold of your doctor?

When I call, the receptionist answers. If she thinks it an emergency (one time I was throwing up blood), she gets a doctor. If it might be a problem, she gets a nurse. And If she’s pretty sure it’s nothing (like the first time I had round ligament pain but thought I was dying), she has a nurse call me back within a couple hours.

I’m happy when I talk with a nurse– they consult with the doctors anyway.

Most physicians make return calls at the end of the day if the nurse hasn’t already done so.  If you are in pain, make an appointment and go in.  Same day cancellations or asking if you can be added on help to get squeezed in.

I’m inclined to trust nurses more than doctors!

Doctors always seem to be super rushed, but nurses seem to have some time for you!

@Cory_loves_this_girl:  If you call your doctors office directly ans ask to speak with his care staff they usually connect you with the nurses that work with the MD directly. From there they have a list of things patients most often call about with instructions on how the doctors like to handle it. It is something out of the ordinary they go and talk to the doctor about it and follow up with you. I think it is pretty rare to get your actualy doctor on the phone, but you should be able to talk to people that work directly with him. Good luck!

@Cory_loves_this_girl:  I am glad you did talk with a nurse. That seems odd that you can’t alk with your doctors office directly though. And don’t feel silly at all about calling and asking, its better to call and ask then sit and worry:)

I can usually reach the nurse (real person and not automated) or e-mail my PA if I need anything. I go to Raleigh Family Practice  for my general needs. I’ve always just called the office too.
