Who's using a day of coordinator or wedding planner?

Is it just me or is a reception on prison grounds just wrong?

    I can't help but laugh about this. I'd probably go and take a look, just for a laugh! Sometimes the weirdest places end up being the neatest!

    However, a prison crosses the lines for me. I wonder if they offer alumni discounts? LOL.

    It's just...too funny!

    So I talked with my mom this morning - both of my parents worked there. My dad said the building is very 'ghetto.' Just like I told my mom - it's on PRISON GROUNDS! It is a common place for people to have birthday parties and graduation parties around here. But I'll say that it is the same prison that is home to a very well known, violent riot in the 70's. The building is outside the main coplex, but it is on prison grounds. I have talked to FI and my parents and we have agreed to just say no. I was only agreeing to look to appease her, but she acted like I was nuts for not wanting to have it there. Thanks for the input, ladies (and Mr Bee)!! We're going back to legit venues. :)

    Oh dear, if it is where I think it is (how many famous prison riots were there in NY state?!), then this is totally a no go.

    @Mattel, I am sorry that you are dealing with this, but if it's any consolation to you, your dilemna has provided amusement for many wedding bees. Now we can all say, "You thought your FMIL was bad? Attica's wanted to hold her wedding at the prison!"

    @MrBee - true indeed.

    @Mattel - I'm glad you decided to put your foot down - I can understand why you wouldn't want to have your wedding there (though I still think it would be hillarious and am considering looking FOR venues like this around our area because nothing has suited me thus far) and would hate to see you miserable with your location and therefore entire wedding!

    I don't know, I have a friend getting married in an old mental asylum that's supposedly haunted.  She and her FI are really into zombies and horror movies and all that, so it suits them.  I think it's kind of cool.

    I'd go look at the space with your FMIL.  It does not hurt to at least look.  If you find something esle you like better, at least you gave it a shot.
