Sounds a little crazy. Is it the flight that’s making it cost so much? We’re staying at a Sandals in St. Lucia for 6 days and are paying about $4300 for the resort and airfare. We did book it several months ago and are flying out of Chicago though. You should check out the Sandals website, they’ve been having up to 65% off stays at some of their resorts. Because of the discount we upgraded to a better room.

Hi date twin! I don’t have any suggestions, but I want to say that you’re right to laugh at her! Skip the agent next time and look on your own, all she wants to do is get you to spend more money, not make sure you have  a good honeymoon.  Check out http://www.cheapcaribbean.com/ .  I just did a quick search on them and found a bunch for under $4000.

Your travel agent is a looney. Of course you can plan a vacation for 5 days with that budget. I have many times for under that money and have stayed at amazing places. I would do some research and see what comes up. Just doesn’t sound right to me.

Shes full of it!  We are working with a travel agent here in san diego that told us to be prepared for $7,000 for Tahiti for 8 days.  you could soooo do 5 days for 5-6k.  try a different agent or try booking it yourself.

as far as Sandles goes, sign up for their newsletters – my girlfriend just booked her honeymoon at one of their resorts and got something amazing like 40% off through the emails she gets from them.

I feel your pain! There is a world of all inclusive resorts that dont include sandals. I think a lot of times you pay extra just to get the sandals name.

I recommend you look at  http://www.allinclusiveoutlet.com  This website includes all of the “all inclusive resorts.” It was recommended to my fiance and I by a few of our close friends whom i trust would not steer us wrong. We have every intent of booking through them. The prices are very reasonable. We are planning on going to Mayan Riveria for 7 days and we found packages at both 5 and 6 star all inclusive resorts that include airfare for under $3500. And that is total, for the both of us.

I think it is completely outrageous that your travel agent said you cant afford your dream honeymoon for 5-6k. do some research at that website and I promise you, you will find a better deals. Good luck and happy honeymooning Smile

I think she’s full of it too!  5-6k should be doable.  Maybe she thought you wanted more than you did..you didn’t mention that you wanted to stay in the NICEST room, just something decent, right? I second the idea that she wants you to spend more.  We went through this with a florist.

As a sidenote, just because she didn’t put anything into the computer doesn’t mean it couldn’t have been the airfare…  I noticed your wedding is in Canada…  that’s pretty far from most tropical places, right?  I mean, for me out here in HI to fly up there could probably cost about 1k per person…depending on where in Canada you are..I mean, to fly to the East coast or even to MI costs in the 900s range at least… so hypothetically if your budget were more on the 5k side and you spent 2k on just airfare, you’d still need hotel, food, spending $$ and you may have a hard time pulling it off..but regardless I think she could have done SOMETHING decent!

I totally agree that she’s nuts.  We’re doing a week and half in an amazing, luxurious four-bedroom villa in St. Lucia secluded in the mountains with jaw-dropping view  of the mountains and ocean, a private garden, and private pool and hot tub for that price.  It’s not an all-inclusive (we don’t like resorts), but it does come with a personal cook/shopper, a housekeeper, and a pool and grounds caretaker.  We’re planning on being plenty lazy over the week, and think the only thing that we won’t have that they will at all-inclusives is high prices, crowds, and much less privacy!  Would you consider doing something like this?  I have used vrbo.com for similar travel arrangements in the past and am always pleased.

I’m not sure where in Canada you are from, but you could check out tripcentral.ca

It has a great graph that allows you to pick your dates, minimum star rating, etc and compare across destinations.  It then shows you the minimum price for each hotel (searching across different sites) inclusive of taxes.  From Vancouver, the choices don’t go too far beyond Mexico/Dominican Republic/Cuba, but there are a lot more options from Ontario I believe.  Might be worth a quick peak 🙂

I am not sure who that gal is or what travel agent you called but she is having a bad day or else she is on a little somethin’ somethin’ if you know what I mean.  5-6k is a very nice amount to spend on a honeymoon. Do you have list of places you would like to go? If you have a list of 4 places then research the you know what outta them. Anything and almost everything is possible…We just have to use our resources Laughing Are you in Eastern of Western Canada?

We used our Airmiles to fly us to Belize, and then we’re staying at the Royal Belize, a private island just off the coast for 10 days for $6500. Just the two of us, a chef, some grounds crew, awesome food, snorkelling. Heaven. I think we’ll end up spending around $8000 by the end of it (taxes and fees from Airmiles, tips, etc) and I’m okay with that. Plus we’re staying for 10 days rather than a week. I think it’s pretty reasonable! You only get to honeymoon once right?! (Hopefully)
