My FI’s dog is about 17 years old and she is kind of showing her age.
I discovered last week when I came to visit them and I found that she is shedding a lot! He says that its normal for her to shed a lot twice a year. So I didnt give it any thought.
But today when I went over there to clean a little I noticed bald spots on her. I texted my FI who is a t work and asked him if this is normal for her, but I havent heard back from him yet. I have known them years and I dont remember seeing bald spots on her before.
Bees who have experience with older dogs, is she balding because of sickness, old age, or is it just regular shedding?
Thanks for the help.

One possibility is that he is hypothyroid. You can bring him in to a vet to test that. A medication is available to help treat it.

Get her thyroid checked. The doggy I used to have got weak and tired and started showing bald spots. After a few weeks on Thyrosin he was happy and perky again, and his hair grew back.

Wow, 17? I’ve never experienced a dog living to that age!

This happened to my dog when he was old…I have absolutely no idea what the condition was or what it was called, but I know that the doctor gave us drops that we had to put on the spot twice a day to treat it. You should definitely see the vet because you just never know!
