Obviously not before work… but if you work nights and get off in the morning, or on a saturday when you’re just gonna lounge around all day anyway…
Is it so bad to have a hard cider with breakfast or put a little vanilla vodka in your diet coke at 9 AM to make your chores a little more fun, or inject a little more entertainment into watching your FH play video games?
I’m a SERIOUS morning person – and my anxiety/depression symptoms are more likely to play up at night as well – so I sometimes do this because it’s fun and I’m nearly always in better spirits in the morning that at night. I’ll have a beer with friends, but I often don’t feel comfortable drinking much at night… whereas in the morning/early afternoon, it’s great!
But I feel like there’s a weird stigma against it.
Assuming you KNOW it isn’t going to interfere with anything that matters, would you drink in the morning? Would you judge someone who did?

@Bebealways: I’ve always said, if you need rules to keep yourself from drinking too much, you have a problem. I’ve been known to have a beer at 10 am, on a sunny day. Generally I’m not in the mood for it, in the morning, but if I am, and I don’t have to be anywhere, there’s no reason not to.

@Bebealways: I’d say it’s fine! Your schedule’s reversed anyway. Someone else I know drinks sunup to sundown and is constantly drunk, I think THAT’s a problem. But a little here and there? Meh!

Of course it’s ok.
This was always just shorthand for drinking too much, i.e., all day, because typically and socially drinking was done in the evening. And people expected that there was work to be done in the day, which sobriety would be useful for.

. as long as you dont START drinking in the morning and FINISH drinking at night LOL. i think thats where the stigma comes from. having ONE drink any time and thats it…sounds fine to me. but, if your first drink is at 9am and you just keep going all day….thats how alcoholism can start. to me, its not time, its how LONG you drink. does that make sense?

@Duncan: I totally agree with this.
I drink in the morning occasionally, always on weekends. In winter I might have a few caesars, summer a few mimosas. I don’t generally have a drink drink, meaning a glass of wine, beer or a gin & tonic. I save those for after lunch….12.01pm to be exact 😉

@bestbuddies: Yeah, I dig it. Definitely not that… my tolerance is too low for that anyway. It’s either/or, not all day…

@Bebealways: ha, I hear you! one glass of wine and I am all lossy goosy 😀 mimosa’s is a great way to start a day off if you ask me 😀

Champagne, mimosas, bloody Marys, Irish coffee, Kaluah coffee and peppermint schnapps hot cocoa are all acceptable morning drinks.

The best beer I’ve ever had was at the end of a race at 9am. So no issues with it here! I guess as long as it’s not causing issues. or it’s causing you to drink and drive

Baileys + coffee = great start to the day.
I work a day job so it’s a rare weekend/vacation treat, but I don’t see a problem with what you describe!

I work evening and overnights . Some mornings a shot of whiskey or a glass of wine is nessacary for my sanitly

I think the occasional brunch bloody mary or mimosa is about as far as morning drinking should go. If you have to drink to do chores/hang out with your SO/etc then I’d say that’s a problem.

@crayfish: It’s not so much a “have to”… it’s just a “sometimes fun” thing.
