    I hope they are not a trend!  Who doesn’t love cupcakes!?  I opted for several small cakes and a few pies rather than one big whole cake, but I wish we had gone with cupcakes.  Not only are they cost effective, DIY friendly, and offers more variety, but they also are so darn cute.  Oh, and they are easier to transport too.

    I wish I had seen pics like these before we ordered our cake

    We are using cupcakes as well, but it is mostly because we absolutely could not pick just one flavor!  We can do a variety of flavors & that way there will be something everyone will like.  (unless, of course, they don’t like cake…)

    Well I have yet to go to a wedding with cupcakes instead of cake so I don’t think it’s overplayed just yet!

    I think cupcakes can turn out amazing!  They’re just not for me.  Don’t get me wrong, they’re delicious.  I just love to see “the cake”!  When I’ve seen cupcakes at a wedding, actually, there’s usually been a little tiny cake on the top tier, with a cake topper.  So maybe that’s the best of both worlds.

    Ps – I’m not yet married and FI’s aunt is a professional cake baker and is doing ours as our gift, so that could have something to do with my attachment to the cake idea!

    I think they’re VERY popular, but over-played?  Nah.  It’s like saying white dresses are over-played; they’re kind of becoming the wedding norm, if anything.  🙂

    How could cupcakes ever be overplayed?  I personally would rather eat a cupcake than a slice of cake.  I just think they taste better.  Also, it is somewhat more affordable, so I do not think it is something that will “go away,” you know what I’m saying?  Despite cost, I really prefer them!

    No way, who would ever turn down a cupcake?

    A crazy person, that’s who.

    @tksjewelry: These are so sweeet!

    I don’t think cupcakes are overdone.  I’m just personally not that keen on them.  I like a slice of cake, easier to eat with a pastry fork.  And I always use a pastry fork to eat cakes, it keeps my fingers from getting sticky.  I’m just weird.

    No, not at all! They definitely are a popular choice, but it’s for a reason! I am not a huge cake or cupcake fan, but I think that they look great on display at weddings.

    We did black bottom cheesecake cupcakes! They were awesome! They didn’t feel overplayed in 2009, not now. Also, who cares!?!? Cupcakes are fun and awesome!

    If cupcakes are overplayed, what does that make wedding cake? Go for it if they fit your budget and they’re what you want.
