Ok, so, I’m a newly married bride. And I guess I’ll have to divulge the info here to get answers.
I was never on birth control till May of this year — I think I started the pil mid-late May, Loestrin. My hubs and I had sexual relations soon as I started the b.c. and they were “unprotected.” Since then, I’ve had periods, though I had one that was what I would consider “irregular” and I’m guessing it has to do with my body adjusting to the b.c.? But it came mid-month, like literally 2 weeks after what I thought was my period that had lasted for 5 days and was harder cramping than before.
So, I kept worrying that perhaps, since the b.c. doesn’t always “kick in” right off, that I’d actually conceived. I’ve used two home preg tests since the end of May, one in June and one in July. Both definitely negative. And yet I’ve had what I would consider symptoms of early pregnancy from all I’ve read . . . . the slight yet noticeable growth in “the bump” look of my tummy, gas, frequent need to urinate, GREAT fatigue, headaches, hormone fluxes, swollen and full/large boobs (the LARGEST I’ve EVER had!), nausea at weird times and with or without food, not being able to fit my bra or my shorts/pants/skirts, and now, exaggerated gag reflux. I sometimes will gag at something like reaching my toothbrush far enough back in my mouth . . . but today I was nearly gagging 4x when I went for a dental appt with simple bitewing xrays — NEVER an issue before!
I did gain weight which I think was due to just plain not eating as healthy, perhaps eating too much, and stress. That was over the last year. I wasn’t pleased. But I keep feeling like something is “off.” And I wondered, has anyone ever had any of these symptoms, and either did (or didn’t) feel like they could be pregnant, but didn’t have positive tests to prove it and/or DID seem to still have “periods”? Versus just spotting/implantation bleeding? Because my “periods” have had such light flow, it’s more like spotting and I ONLY have to use light liners, NOT pads!
Please help me assess this . . . . and get some answers/input/experience shared?? My husband and I really want to have a baby, and we’d be delighted if we were pregnant now . . . but I’m so confused!

Likely you are adjusting to the birth control pills, especially with negative UPTs. It wouldn’t hurt to go see your gyn and get a serum test, just to be on the safe side.

You could be having side effects, but these symptoms could also be stress related or something totally different. I also suggest that you go get checked out by your doctor.

Sorry, I forgot to say that my OB/GYN put me on the b.c. in mid-May. And I had a follow-up in early July. You’d think he’d be able to tell I was preggo if I was. Or tell me if something was irregular. He said it all checked out good, just encouraged me in my healthier eating/taking supplements like I had been, exercising, etc. and actually started my appt by asking, “So, you ready to have a baby?!?” Yeah.

It does take a few months before birth control becomes completely effective. So it is possible. Check with your doctor to be on the safe side, or at least to put your mind at ease.
Starting birth control also has similar symptoms to be pregnant so it really could be that. Every time I take my fake pills, I get extremely nauseous. And lots of people do experience weight gain, hormonal swings on B.C.

I’m taking the same BC and for a couple of months I thought I might be preggo. I’ve taken 4 or 5 HPT and all of them negative. My periods have been really light (like 1 day) usually without BC, they last 3 or 4 days.
I would think that they would’ve tested you at your follow up appt if you had suspicion that you were.

well, I didn’t voice any suspicion I had, because I figured it must have just been me in tune with my body per usual, and the birth control was making me feel different. So I didn’t ask for them to specifically test me at my appt in early July . . . . but I DID Have a full-fledged PAP test, women’s health physical exam, etc. And not a word was spoken of thinking I could be preggo. I’m all very new at this . . . never been pregnant, and b.c. first time was this May!! I was a virgin till this past spring, also, shortly before we started the b.c. And we had “unprotected” sex before going on b.c. for about 1 1/2 months total. That’s all the info I have.

More than likely it’s adjustment to BC, but the only way to be sure is to do the serum test.

I would agree that it’s probably adjustment to the pill, because I am also on Loestrin, and when I wasn’t on it, my periods were much heavier and worse. Now they only last like 2 days and they are very very light.
I think it takes a couple of months for your body to adjust so if you are still feeling this way in the next couple of months, make another appointment with your doctor and get him/her to test you, for peace of mind.

I use to be on Loestrin and it made my periods 2-3 days and very light. Everyones body adjusts differently to birth control. BC is made to “fool” your body into actually thinking your pregnant. So maybe you are having slight pregnancy symptoms and are not prego. My sister was on Loestrin a couple years ago and she had to get off because she was having alot on pregnancy symptoms and was miserable(nausea, bigger boobs, tired). Loestrin may not be a good BC for you to take if its making you not feel well. If you keep feeling icky id recommend switch!

If anyone has anything else to share, I’d be glad to read it!!
And thanks SO MUCH to all of you who promptly and thoroughly responded to me re: this issue! It’s a big deal to me, since it’s my body and it’s been putting me on the rollercoaster a bit off and on . . . but not consistently, really, till recently!!
Will take into consideration all that was posted here for suggestions!
