That is funny. My dad told my mom when he gave her, her ring "This will probably be the most expensive thing I ever get you" LOL. My dad is such a plain straight up kind of guy. I couldn't even imagine him at 23 down on one knee asking my mom to "Be the mother of my children" in town square of where they lived at the time. The running joke in my family is that to ensure my mom didn't turn him down he asked on his b-day. Ahhh... love.
lol. At least your mom got a proposal, my daddy never proposed. lol
They were hs sweethearts (like me and FI), he asked my grandfather for permission and when the ring was out of layaway he gave it to her. lol
Oh, that's a sweet story about your mom and dad. Now-a-days, you just never know - there seems to be a lot of brides out there who have Moisanite, CZ or lab-made stones.

While I was visiting my family for Easter some of my parent's old family friends stopped by. One of their friends, we'll call him L, was friends with my parents before they were engaged. He told me a hilarious story about my parent's engagement that I just needed to share with the hive.
L used to work for a jeweler and many moons ago my dad went to him to purchase the diamond for my mom's e-ring. At that point in time my dad literally had NO money and was working on paying off a ton of debt. Because he got the diamond from L he was able to work out a payment plan that worked for him. My mom of course did not know about any of this and my dad had told her they would get married after he had paid off all his debt. Apparently he didn't want to wait any longer so he purchased the diamond from L. A few weeks later my dad proposed with the ring and my mom, knowing he didn't have money, immediately looked at the ring, then at my dad and blurted out "Is it real???"
My poor father! He goes through all this to get her a beautiful ring and that's her response! God forbid my mom get a fake diamond!!!!! She seriously cracks me up. I can't imagine saying that to my boyo if he proposed to me.... I have a feeling that will be the last thing on my mind! Anyways, hope you girls got a chuckle out this... I was laughing for the rest of the night.
