I am of the opposite belief, feeling that the more allergy prone foods you eat while pregnant and or breastfeeding, the less likely your baby will be to have allergies to those foods, which has been backed by recent research.

@Cory_loves_this_girl:  I have read both arguments, I don’t think it’s an issue either way. I’m more worried about salmonella then anthing else.

Agree with PP – I asked my allergy doctor why it seems like more and more people are having peanut allergies these days and he said that historically, allergists recommended pregnant women to avoid all foods that are known to have wicked allergies like peanuts and strawberries and such. Well apparently there wasn’t really any research to back this up but recent studies have shown that eating peanuts and other allergens during pregnancy reduces the risk of your baby having these allergies… Obviously ask your doctor don’t take advice from the web but that’s what my doctor told me

And if your worried about contamination – make your own PB. It’s really easy, just peanuts, salt, and little peanut oil in the food processor

@Cory_loves_this_girl:  I are everything I normally are while I was pregnant an my baby turned out just fine. She has absolutely no allergies and loves peanut butter, strawberries, you name it.

Never heard of that – my OB always suggested I eat fruit or veggies w/ peanut butter for a balanced snack with protein to help regulate blood sugar and keep from feeling nauseated.

Eating peanuts while pregnant does NOT cause your child to be allergic. Totally safe. Enjoy.

I was told not to eat peanut butter because I have a lot of allergies… If you don’t then I think it is completely safe, delicious AND nutritious!

I won’t be able to give up peanut butter during pregnancy, and since I dont have allergies to it I don’t forsee it being a problem.

You are supposed to eat lots of nuts because it decreases a child’s chance of different ailments later on.  I have not read the greatest things about peanut butter in general, something about the stores of peanut butter and some kind of mold or something that develops (for anyone to consume) however there are lots of other butter!  Cashew, walnut, almond- these are all much better choices, but peanut is still good for you and baby- I am just kind of a purist and during pregnancy try to eat nuts and nut butters that are even better.
