That is a great question! My daughter just ordered one from China on e-bay after seeing the prices in the bridal stores for what she liked it would have been acouple of thousand dollars. The one she ordered was $145.00 with shipping. She figured she has a lot to gain and not much to loose. It most deffinately is a gambel though. I'll let you know when it comes in!
I ordered my dress from an online store that makes a replica. I received it last week and am quite impressed. The quality is good, and the style is almost identical. The cost was unbelievably cheaper than buying the original. It was a gamble, but I'm SOOO glad I did it. I did a ton of research on reviews and also communicated with the online store and requested pictures of their style of the dress.

I ordered 2 replica's. One is from china and i have already gotten and i LOVED it. I went with Lightinthebox.com because each dress they sell has its own reviews & they are pictures of the actual dresses. a few places i looked at use the designers photo & dont say that its not a dress they made.
Dress #2 i got custom made from a Etsy.com seller i showed her 2 pix of the dresses i wanted to make 1 dress she made a sketch & is now making it :)

I think it depends. If you could find a good online wedding dress store,you are greatly likely to get a satisfying wedding dress with low price and high quality. The key point is what a good online store should be. Below is my personal idea: 1. the attitude/servise of the store. Does the seller reply mail quickly? Is the seller patient enough? Making a dress is not a simple thing; we possibly change/alter a lot of things before everything is done, such as, the material of the fabric, the structure, the color as well as the size. Does the seller accept the return of the dress? 2. The quality of the dress. The quality of the dress decides whether the dress is comfortable and elegant. So, it will be wise to ask for some samples of the fabric before ordering the dress. 3. Feedback/Reviews of the dress. If there are any feedbacks or reviews of the dress on the online store, it will be a great help to the bride to decide whether they should order from the online store.
