Hi – I just got engaged last Wednesday, and am slightly bashful about asking this of my long-time married friends, but I want to wear my ring all day, every day forever, and hate taking it off even just to shower. It that weird? I don’t wear jewelry just around the house, but feel this is something special, and that I’d put on a wedding ring all day every day, too, becuase it’s more than just some kind of adornment, it’s part of a special pledge. Is this weird? Do you ladies wear your rings all day (within reason, swimming, showering, or activities where it might get damaged I understand) regardless of whether you even leave the house?

First off, congratulations on your engagement! I’ve only been engaged for two months myself, but I don’t think it’s weird to want to wear your ring all the time. Personally, I take mine off when I shower and when I go to bed, but plenty of people leave theirs on 24/7. It’s completely up to you and what you find comfortable. There’s no right or wrong way.

Isilme: Congrats on your engagement! 🙂 I got engaged on Christmas 2013 and I hardly ever take my ring off, only when I’m doing yardwork or something that might really damage it. I sleep with it on, wash dishes, swim etc.

I’m the same as PP – I leave mine on while showering/sleeping/pretty much anything except yard work. Then I make FI put it in the gun safe cause I’m so paranoid about now wearing it. Go ahead and wear it all the time! My mom always said the safest place for your ring is on your finger

I leave my ring on 98% of the time. I really only take it off if I’m going to be shoveling snow, raking leaves and mowing the lawn (because the pressure causes a sore spot on my hand,) and if I’m cooking something that I have to touch with my bare hands (like rolling cookie dough in sugar or kneading bread dough.) Otherwise, I sleep in it, shower in it, etc. Oh, I do take it off for a minute or two when I put on hand lotion.

I never take my ring off. I wear it no matter what I’m doing. Swimming, sleeping, shower, whatever. It’s a ring. It’s gold and diamonds. It’s supposed to be able to handle cotton sheets and shampoo. I don’t think that’s asking too much of it. My mother could care less. She’s good either way and hardly ever wears her ring. I really think it just depends on the girl wearing it. To me when I see people without rings I automatically think something is going on, even though I see my mom without her ring all the time and I know it’s only because she’s not into wearing it all the time. I also think that the newness of it wears off after like 10 years. I’ve had mine since 2011 and I still never ever take it off. And if I do take it off he always puts it back on for me.

I leave mine on all the time, the only reason for it to come off my hand is for cleaning.

The only time mine comes off is if I am gardening or using harsh chemicals (or have swollen fingers from pregnancy).
I wear mine all the time. I love it, and my DH would probably be upset if I never wore something he spent a decent amount of money on.
I suppose how practical your ring is may determine how much you’ll wear it. I specifically wanted something that I wouldn’t damage easily, that wouldn’t get caught on stuff all the time, etc. It would probably be more difficult to wear my ring all the time if it was huge, or too dainty, or too high.

I have to take mine off for work (I am a Registered Nurse) but other than that I wear mine all the time. I wear gloves to garden.

Congratulations on your engagement ☺
I’ve been engaged nearly 3 months now and until about 3/4 weeks ago I only took my ring off when washing my hair and washing dishes. I used to sleep in it too until I hurt my finger (I sleep on my hands) but I put it back on as soon as I’m up even if I’m not going anywhere or wearing any other jewellery.

I take mine off to shower, at the gym on days I take boxing, when traveling to poor countries, and preparing messy foods like meatloaf. I remove my ring one because I don’t want it damaged or be the reason I am targeted for a theft crime. I remove it so it doesn’t get diety which would require me to clean it more frequently. I have been advised frequent cleaning especially in at home solutions is not good for the metal. My ring is palladium.
Congrats on your engagement.

i love having mine on! i feel so naked if i don’t have it on. The only time I take it off is when I shower (simply b/c we dont have drain covers in our showers and im so scared it will fall down the drain!) or if Im doing something super risky….like going skiing on the lake (dont want to lose it in the lake, id never find it!)

The only time I take my wedding rings off is if I’m working with raw meat (like making meatloaf). Otherwise I shower with them, wash dishes, etc. I even did yard work yesterday with them on but I had gloves on most of the time so wasn’t worried about it. I might take them off at the gym when doing heavy lifting because it hurts my hand and I don’t want the dumbells/barbells to scratch them up.

Ok – Thanks! I felt silly wanting to be sure I had a trinket box/ring holder in the kitchen and bathroom, just because sometimes I can’t get past people in our tiny house if I want to store it in my jewelry box in case of many of the above reasons (meatloaf/dough making, showering). My finger changes size pretty noticeably all day, so it’s a bit loose in the morning, or if I am cold, but just right if I am warm at the end of the day – I don’t want a permanant size change, and thnk once I add a simple bad after the wedding and get them soldered together, it will probably be even more secure – I guess since it’s new and I’ve never worn even a casual ring on this ahnd, I am more nervous about it falling off doing dishes or cooking. My friend, a hairdresser, managed to get used to hers, and it had a pretty high profile (I guess mine does, too, simple solitaire), so if she can do it, so can I. I just wnated to amke sure I’m not being silly 🙂

It’s not odd to want to wear your ring all the time. Though I usually take mine off as soon as I get home, then put it on again when I leave in the morning. My ring sits up fairly high, so can hit things/get caught fairly easily. Also taking it off when I’m home means I don’t have to clean it as often. When I don’t take it off, I make a point to wear gloves when I’m cleaning, etc.
