I don't think so - the save-the-date is generally more casual. I hand-wrote mine, but not in a nice neat way (more like a my-handwriting-is-like-a-6yo way, lol). Go for it!
Oh I hope not... lol because I printed mine. STD's are just like a "heads up" right? I say just print 'em & save the hard work for your invites :)
I printed mine too, I think its okay because it is more casual. At least I hope so!
I hope so! I printed my addresses for the STD's!

Thank you everyone for chiming in! Sounds good to me - keep it simple!
This was really helpful- we are just getting started with our Save the Dates but now I am definitely printing! Thanks :)

I had originally thought about printing the envelopes and then tracing them. Well, I bougth some gel pens that match the ink of the save-the-dates perfectly, but I cannot trace some beautiful caligraphy with those pens. So, I am considering either printing and tracing in Lucida Calligraphy font which is not so pretty, or just plain printing in the Chopin Script font which is the one I really like and will probably use for other paper/stationery projects. Here is what they look like. the first is the Chopin and the second is the one I would trace:
