I know nothing about rubber guards but we got engaged too on 12-12-12 and I wanted to say congratualations!!

If it were me, I would go a bit larger b/c you can always go smaller but not bigger. I also think you can have quarter sizes, not just whole and half. I’m a half number but I think I remember them saying it could be done. Have you thought of asking that?

Would love to see your ring!

I actually just bought the rubber ring guards two weeks ago because of that same problem of the rings getting too loose in the winter, and they are horrible! They do not work at all and fall right off. Not worth it even though they are dirt cheap. I won’t get the metal ones either for the reason you mentioned. So we’re screwed!

I’ve seen ladies wrap some fishing line around the bottom of the ring to make a ring-guard like the plastic ones that doesn’t fall off or do annoying stuff.

@bella731:  I had this same problem. I had a metal guard put on, and the ring was scratched, but when I decided i definitely wanted the ring smaller (the metal guard was a trial period) the jeweler polished the scratches off free of cost. Talk to whoever did your ring!

You can have it resized in 1/4 sizes too. Mine is a 5.25, although it should be a 5 – go figure. 🙂

@bella731:  yeah… I did last year too. It’s not too much of a difference for me, but my set would still feel better a little tighter.

I use them all the time and I love them (the rubber ring guards). I gotmine from ebay and they are different from the ones I get at Claire’s (cheap jewelry store). They are curved and they stay on really well.

I wouldn’t recommend the rubber ring guards. I used them a few years ago on a random ring that I had that was too big for me. They are cheap, uncomfortable, and fall off because they eventually stretch out. It just doesn’t feel natural.
