On Friday, we will be down to six months until the wedding. I am still working on the save the dates but I’m wondering if I’m wasting my time. Do you think it will be too late if my wedding will be less than 6 months by the time guests receive our save the dates?

I sent mine like, at just about 6 months exactly. I didn’t want to skip it, though, since we have a lot of people out of town that we are inviting, so it would be helpful to give a little heads up. So I think that is the biggest factor.

I always thought you send them around the 5 to 6 month mark and then formal invitations about 6 to 8 weeks before? Maybe I’m wrong..

I think you should send them out at the 6 month mark. Because we didn’t get our addresses together until right before we sent out our invites, we never sent out Save-The-Date Cards.

yeah usually Save-The-Date Cards go out 6 to 12 months in advance….more than 6 months when you have a destination wedding so I think you are good. I won’t be sending mine out until 6 months before the wedding.

We have a 5.5 month engagement and sent our Save-The-Date Cards with about 4.5 months to go. We have a lot of out of state guests and wanted to give them a heads up, but because we have a short engagement we couldn’t send them out sooner. You should still be fine, and people will appreciate the heads up!

It’s usually 6-8 months, I think. Just try and get them done, soon! Otherwise it may be a waste of money since the invites will be close behind.

I think it’s fine! Some people only have a 6-month engagement and send them out right away.
I’m also in the camp that you don’t NEED save the dates – so if it’s too much work/hassle, just scrap it!

I think 5-6 months is fine. Always thought that was fine. I’d hurry up on the save the dates & send them out within a week.

Thank you for all the votes! Makes me feel better.. I really want to send them out because I already have the envelopes and started working on them already! They definitely will be sent out by the end of next week!

I think as long as you get them out and done now you’re good. Six months before isn’t bad.

I sent mine out at right around 5 months. I know 6 is the standard for Save-The-Date Cards but I found ones that I loved and wanted to send them anyway. Go for it!

@alotlikelove: You should still send them.. Stop procrastinating already 🙂
