I originally had my heart set on ordering a matching set of tungsten rings for a total of $200 (the place we are ordering from doesn’t have sales so there is no chance for a deal) but I had been looking at the Peoples Jewellers website (unrelated reasons) and came across their gemstone rings.
I have fallen in love – I can’t imagine having a simple band now that I have seen these rings. I talked it over with FI and he could care less that I buy a ring that doesn’t match his and wants me to have something I get all giddy over.
My budget is still $100 and it is shocking to see the sterling silver rings I can get for well under that price. I keep on leaning towards this one aquamarine ring (my birth stone) but I’ve also been eyeing up a white sapphire ring as well (links below).
I have the cash set aside to buy the rings and I fear if I wait until closer to the wedding that they won’t be available or there’ll be nothing in my price range that’ll catch my eye. I feel now is an okay time to buy considering I am saving money and it won’t cost that much to get it resized if my finger changes (I’ve worn this one engagement ring for over 2 years now and it still fits like a glove and I don’t plan on losing weight).
But my mother has piped up (felt too excited and showed her without thinking first) and said this is a stupid decision and I shold wait until next summer because we might not even get married. Putting my offence aside I don’t feel like this is a commitment that I can’t fix if things go bad (god forbid of course) – I could easily sell the rings for almost what I paid and if I bought the Aquamarine ring then I’d be able to wear it on my other hand.
Also I am just wondering which you feel would be the better option – I personally think the white sapphire one looks cheaper (it even is cheaper) than the aquamarine ring…

@JessicaJupiter: I like the aquamarine too 🙂 And I don’t think it’s ever too early to buy a wedding band.

@JessicaJupiter: would this ring be paired with your current e-ring, or replace it? are you looking to pair a band with one of these rings?I love the aquamarine one!
I’m sorry your mom said that to you 🙁
I don’t think it’s too early to get wedding rings. My wedding is 6 months after yours, and we bought our rings over a month ago! We were browsing and I happen to fall in love one a ring. Now it’s an expense we won’t have to worry about later!

I agree the Aquamarine is GORGEOUS… it would be my choice (and how I VOTED in your Poll)
I also like that it has Diamond accent stones.
White Sapphires are nice, but they’ll never look like Diamonds (so WHY try ?). Plus these are Lab-Created stones.
As for buying early… not a big deal IMO
When I was married the first time (Circa 1980), I bought my Fiancé his Wedding Band as part of his Christmas Present…
Lol, and it came from People’s…
People’s is a decent Chain Jewellers in Canada… I often shop there. They have great deals especially at Christmas Time (10 to 50% off on items, NO Tax, etc)
TIPS – Sign up on-line for their Emails and you’ll get a Coupon that you can use on your first purchase. And if you are an AirMiles Member (Blue Card) you can shop via the Airmiles Website ( http://www.airmilesshops.ca ) and collect AirMiles on your purchases too !!
Hope this helps,

@pineapplez17: I’m completely replacing my e-ring because it was my FMIL’s old wedding ring and it just is an odd shape and isn’t me at all. I’ve always been a person who would rather spend the money a little at a time as I go rather than waiting to spend it all at once!
@This Time Round: People’s is the only jeweller in town that I ever consider visiting when looking for things – I once went to another place for earrings and the gems fell off of the studs before it was even safe to take my earrings out for the first time. Thank you for the email tip, hopefully I could save a few extra bucks.
I feel a bit more comfortable buying it soon. I think I’m going to give myself at least a week to think about the ring – I can’t get it out of my head right now but if I wait a week and still feel the same way I’ll know it is the choice I should make.

@JessicaJupiter: gotcha! well, I think the aquamarine is gorgeous! And go with your gut. If you love the ring, there’s no point in waiting until next year. I’m sure people think it’s crazy that we got our wedding bands 18 months before the wedding, but I found the perfect ring and didn’t want to miss out. And I agree with spending a little money as you go along rather than all at once. We’ll have all those wedding deposits as the date gets closer, so might as well get some expense out of the way early!

Due to my excitement about ordering the ring next week FI actually took a look at the website and even found a ring he loved that matches his birth stone as well. He had hoped for matching rings and they are both silver with just different tones of blue for the stone – so we are both pretty happy with our choice now.
So now instead of spending $200 on both rings (as per the budget) we are now spending just under $150 on both rings and they’ll be better than we both had first anticipated! I cannot even express how thrilled I am about this – that extra $50 will go a long way.
For anyone curious this is the ring he selected which is a wonderful $46:

That first one is really beautiful. I wish I’d known about these rings! I have a white gold ring and you have to plate it rhodium all the time to keep it looking silver. I should have just gotten a silver set!
