If the money is available and you really want to do it, go for it.  If money is tight and could be better spent somewhere else (like gorgeous invites) then save the dough.

I personally don’t think a location should charge you just to take photos there.  I have looked at e-pics of local photographers and they were able to make it into downtown museums and buildings to take pictures without being charged a thing.  If you really want to have your pictures there and you are willing to splurge, then go for it, its your pictures that you have to look at forever.  But I have also noticed that a lot of photography is not so much about the backgrounds as it is about the focus of the couple.  A good photographer can take any background and make gorgeous pictures.  If it were me, I would go for the free locations because you are already paying the photographer to have the pictures taken.

If you really want to have pictures taken at this plantation then I would just bit the bullet and pay the $250.  You aren’t paying it for admission to the place, but for the right to take pictures there.  If you go there and take pictures with out the right paperwork filled out you could be kicked out and then you would have not only wasted money on admission but on a now shortened photo session.  If the money is a deal breaker then you should look around at your other free places.
