Hive I need some brutal honesty. This is the dress I'm this close to ordering (::holds fingers microscopically close together::)

My wedding Location is a Country/Garden tent or finished barn (we're deciding this weekend on one). But it's casual and not too stuffy. My mother is afriad that the dress will look out of place. I'm not too worried about that, I'd wear it grocery shopping if I could! But, is she right? Is my dress too fancy for my garden casual wedding?

I love this dress!! Where are you getting married that you think it would be too fancy?  Everything I have been reading says that the dress should reflect who you are.  If this is "THE DRESS" then go for it!!  It will be beautiful I'm sure!!

Ok, so for some reason your whole posting didn't show when I first left that comment - but I still say go for the dress - if it is what you really love - don't get a less fancy dress and then wish you had got this one.  If you keep your hair and everything else casual, then I think it would be prefection!!

First of all, I think the dress is AMAZING.

I think you should totally get it - you're obviously in love with it and you'll regret not getting it. Is this the dress you want to see in your wedding photos? If yes, than get it!

My sister just had this dilema tonight as well - her 2nd wedding is EXTREMELY small & casual but I knew she wanted a beautiful dres but didn't want to feel silly. Well, tonight we found a gorgeous dress at an amazing deal and she snagged it up instead of going with a blue bridemaid dress!

My point is, the dress needs to fit you, not the venue :)

I say, if you love it get it! Get your groom, BMs, and GMs to wear something nice as well, and no one will even begin to think you look too fancy!

Tell your mom it's ok to be overdressed for your own wedding!  It looks like a very simple shape, which isn't overpowering at all.  I was expecting to see pickups and bling under the poll.

I think the dress is gorgeous. You are the bride -- you're supposed to look a little fancy. :) And, it's not like this dress is sporting a massive skirt with huge petticoats. I say go for it!

I think it's perfect! I think the lace screams casual garden but also romantic and formal. Your dress can go both ways! LOL

Please don't worry about it.  Be happy on your day.  I agree you'll regret it if you settle on something else.  I certainly dont think it looks too fancy for a garden.  As for a barn, I have seen some amazing elegant weddings that combine rustic and formal.  AMAZING!  I wish I had thought of that.  So you will be fine.

What is the designer/style number?  Its pretty similiar to a dress I've been coveting and I'd love to see if I could try it on somewhere.  thanks!!

Go for it! Dress up the barn a little and have a glamorous day! The dress is beautiful! I am wearing an insanely luxurious gown in my own backyard. To compensate, I am having the bridesmaids also wear fancier dresses and lighting the whole backyard with romantic candlelight.

Your dress is a representation of you and how you feel your style. So who cares what it matches as long as it "looks like you".

Personally I love love love you dress!!

I love that dress! It isn't very Haute Couture-esque or over the top, so I wouldn't worry about it. It's simple and gorgeous! I say go for it.

I was (still am a little) affraid that my dress is too dressy for my venue as well... BUT I keep telling myself, I'm the bride, I'm supposed to be dresses-up :) Also, you can dress any location up with the colors, flowers and decor you choose.

I totally agree with everyone!  It will look gorgeous and it's more about how you feel in it then "matching" your venue anyway!

I'd go for it- honestly, I LOVE seeing wedding photos where there is a sharp contrast between the couple and their surroundings...it really makes the couple and the moment stand out that much more when placed against a more subdued (sp?) backdrop.

I don't think that gown is overly fancy for the wedding you described. I've seen lots of lovely outdoor weddings where the bride wore a gown similar to yours in formality. I think that it would look very sweet and charming!! Plus, I like the juxtaposition of beautiful dresses in rustic locations. :)

I hope that helps! Good luck!!

The dress is perfect!  Is my Dress too Fancy for my Venue? : wedding Icon Biggrin

The bodice is beautiful so people know you are the bride.

The skirt is simple enough to keep a casual vibe.

You can really dress it up with a fancy veil, however if want it keep it casual, a simple  drop veil is still gorgeous!

I'm getting married in a garden and I'm also wearing a fancy dress. I figure I only get married once (!) and heck, I'm the bride, so I might as well get really dressed up, ya know?

On the contrary, I think your dress would be perfect for a garden or barn affair!

And honestly, aren't all brides overdressed?  I can't think of any place - except maybe the Academy Awards - where a white gown is considered typical attire.  Your wedding is the only time you can go all out, so you should wear what you love!

    It's a beautiful dress!

I wouldn't worry too much about it fitting or not fitting with the venue. It's a wedding, you're supposed to be more dressed up than everyone else. Think of those gals that get married on a beach, they don't wear swim suits to their wedding. While some of those gals might pick a less formal gown, some do go the gown and suit route on a beach.

Just wanted to point out that the girl modeling the dress is leaning on a wall with chipped paint with flowers sitting on the windowsil. She looks wonderful and not too dressed up for her background.

    Rock the dress!

Thanks guys, you've really helped and made me feel comfortable about my dream dress! I'm going back this weekend to try it on for my Aunt and Nana, I'll be sure to take pictures of me in the dress and show it off if I do purchase it! But at least now I wont worry about it for the next year.

With that said ... did you see Mrs. Avocado's most recent post?  She wore her gown to a backyard/family house/very casual hometown reception and she ROCKED it!!  She looked gorgeous in every photo.  You're the bride!  It's your day to be fancy.  Don't worry about the venue.

    Get the dress!

Hi! This is the same dress I'm very close to ordering for a garden wedding as well!!!  I fretted over the same thing for a bit, but then I couldn't get this dress out of my mind, even as a tried on many more less fancy gowns.  I love this dress!!!  But here's my dilemma.  I'm buying my own dress and have $5000 for whole wedding outfit, bridemaids gifts, present to hubby to be, teeth whitening, and hopefully some left over to pay for out ridiculously expensive, but totally worth it photographer.  So I am considering a dress replica from mybigfatbeautifulwedding.com or I search daily here and at oncewed.com and at preownedweddingdresses.com.  Would you consider selling it used?  This may not work because it looks like your wedding is in June and mine is, too.  Any feedback about where to find a great deal on a sample?
