I’m needing some reassurance here. I finally got to try on the dress that has all the features I want in a dress and I loved it and really want it to be my dress.
The only thing is, I’ve always imagined that my wedding dress would really cinche in my waist and really define my hourglass figure. (I’m not really heavy or anything, but I’m definitely curvy/a tiny bit pudgy.) But I didn’t feel super sucked in in this dress, whereas I totally have in some others. (One other in particular was a size smaller… maybe that was why it made me feel so darn good!) The people there said this gave me the hourglass shape and fit me like a glove (they said the sample was the right size for me), but I thought my waist looked wider than in some other dresses I had tried on. At least from the front. The other angles and the back looked a little better.
Here’s the dress (Maggie Sottero’s Madison):
One thought was that maybe this dress made my boobs look smaller (they usually look bigger to me) and therefore they didn’t balance out my wide hips, making me too pear-shaped. Other dresses I tried on had deeper sweetheart necklines, and this one seems to just be overall shorter in the bust. My soon-to-be mother in law called it more modest, but I wondered if it actually reaches lower up my chest overall.
Another thought is that maybe the ruching on this dress acts like horizontal lines and makes my waist look wide. Other dresses I tried on had more diagonal ruching, which maybe was more slimming…
It has a corset back, so what I need to know is if you think the corset can just be tightened (especially around my waist) to make me more hourglassy. I mentioned it to the consultant but she said she didn’t think it needed to be tightened, and she said I didn’t need any alterations other than length.
This is what the corset looked like when she did it up:
(Hopefully the back pudge will be a bit diminished by June.)
This is the only dress I’ve seen ANYWHERE (in any store or online.. I’m a bit obsessive) that has all the features I want while being within my budget, so please don’t tell me to keep looking for other dresses… I just want to be reassured that I’ll be able to tighten the corset and get that tummy-sucked-in feeling… or at least be reminded that only a handfull of pictures will showcase the dress from straight-on with nothing in front. :/

I honestly think it could be taking away from your figure.

Did you try it with a belt or sash? That might help cinch your waist.

Personally, i think the dress is gorgeous and look great on you!
However, if you don’t feel confident maybe it is not the right dress for you. (but i think you look great!)

It is taking away from your figure. The corset is perfectly laced up, but it’s just not cinching your waist. That’s confusing to me! It just needs an extra nudge right above your hips. Would you consider a belt? You have mentioned you want to lose a bit of weight, so maybe that would make all the difference? For what it’s worth, you have a pretty killer body already.
I never see myself as having a waist, but when I was laced into wedding gowns, I could not believe the curves I saw. That’s how I want you to feel in your dress. Stunning and gorgeous1

I felt beautiful in the dress, I just want to make sure that tightening the corset would make my stomach look and feel a little smaller. I mean, that’s supposed to be what corsets do, right?? I just have no experience with them, so I don’t know!
I really don’t want a sash or belt or anything, I like it super simple.

I do agree that with this dress you look like you have a pear shape. Too bad you don’t have pics of the other ones!

Or wear a corset/bustier underneath the dress. I think the right undergarmets will do the trick.

I really love this gown on you. Very elegant and figure flattering. Have you ever considered wearing a sash to add a little bling and emphasize the tiniest part of your waist? That could add balance and make your legs look forever long. 🙂

I’m really sorry, I know you just want to be reassured, but I agree that the dress makes you look more pear shaped than hourglass. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, because I do think you look slim and great in the dress, but if you’re saying that other dresses made your waist look smaller, then you’re probably right that they did. Have you tried trying it on with a spanx underneath for your waist to add extra cinching?
And I agree with the salesperson – that dress does look like it’s your size and it does look like the corset in the back is tied up properly. But, it does make you look like your bust is smaller than your hips and I feel like your waist can be made to look smaller b/c I don’t think that was just all in your head.
To be certain, I would need to see you in other dresses to see if this dress in particular is the best dress on you. I do think it looks great on you, though.

I know you said this is the only dress you’ve seen in stores or online that has everything you’re looking for, but maybe the Allure 8861 does, too? It’s very similar, should be in the same price range, and maybe would cinch you in better? I’m not sure b/c haven’t tried either of these dresses on.
Also with the corset back.

I agree with PP. You’ve got a great figure and this dress isn’t doing it justice! Do you have any pictures of other dresses you’ve tried on to compare?

I’ve seen the Allure one – like I said, I’m obsessive – and it’s too fit-and-flare for me.
Wahh, this is so discouraging. I’m really quite in love with this dress, and I didn’t think my figure looked THAT bad in it!!! I’m wishing I had never posted this 🙁

The dress is beautiful on you, and it does look great. I do feel like you could wear a dress that does a better job at making you even more hourglassed. You do have one in this dress, I just know that you could have more of one.
I guess that the best solution I can come up with is to look at dresses online.
This is almost identical, I’m sure it’s much cheaper, and the cost of it would afford you a really high end corset, or another piece of awesome lingerie.
(haha i ordered my MOH’s dress from them- they do phenomenal work)
Ultimately I love this dress though!

That dress is doing you no favors. I don’t know if you have ordered it or not, but if you haven’t then I wouldn’t.
