A quick googling tells me that kittens can go into heat as early as 4 months. I’m not sure where you live that vets won’t spay or neuter before 6 months. I fostered a kitten and she had been fixed around 8 weeks old.

Not as sure about male cats in heat as I’ve only ever had female cats, but I have to say I read the title and I was like “YOU’D KNOW if your cat was in heat.” My current cat was in heat once before she was spayed and she WOULD NOT SHUT UP or stop assuming the position like a little cat whore.

FutureMrsBex :   ASH. :  vets where I live also won’t neuter before 6 months of age. It’s so they get the full benefit of hormone development for growth.

ETA: shelters will do earlier though as benefits outweigh the risks.

ASH. :  I had the same issue with two kittens I had. (Same age different litter) Vets would perform the operations until they were six months old. Luckily all was good but I was prepared that I may have ended up being a grandmother to some fur babies!!!

I’m surprised honestly that a PP got her cat spayed/neutered at 8 weeks…. Thought 6months was the earliest possible without causing issues with the cats development. My cats stayed pretty small I think as a result of the early intervention….

I don’t think she is in heat. Male kittens do that to male or female animals when they start going into puberty. My male was pretty aggressive before we got him fixed but my dad’s cat would hump his brother before he was neutered.

If it continues and you are worried I would keep them as separated as possible. But not to be morbid, but even worst case scenario, cats can be spayed while pregnant.

Also, kittens and puppies can be spayed and neutered as early as 8 weeks old and 2 pounds.

I’m so surprised that it sounds like there are a lot of vets out there who won’t alter cats until 6mos old! The vets I’ve dealt with have all had weight requirements (2lbs) but encourage spay neuter/asap after 8 weeks. So many kittens and cats are euthanized every year in the US 🙁  From what I’ve heard the recovery is also easier if it’s done at a young age.

Anyway, I wouldn’t worry too much about whatever’s going on with your kitties. You’re definitely doing the right thing!

They are adorable BTW!!!

cmsgirl :  I didn’t get her spayed. I fostered her right after the shelter had spayed her. I guess as another poster mentioned, shelters must spay and neuter as early as possible.

ASH. :  sounds like he’s just showing dominance. I have a male and female cat and he still does this and they are both spayed/neutered. My male cat is just doing it to be an asshole and piss off his sister 🙄.

FutureMrsBex :  I didn’t mean to offend. I understood that you got your kitty already spayed from the shelter,  I was just more curious than shelters do that so young. Here when you adopt a Kitty or a dog from a shelter you pay x amount when you adopt and it includes all the vaccines and spaying/neuturing for the next year. The agreement you make states that your cat has to be vaccinated and spayed at the required time frame otherwise you forfeit the right to the pet you have adopted and they will pursue it through legal channels.

Sorry again. I really didn’t mean it the way it sounded as written.
