Well, you could take it to a local store that DOES carry the "potentially real" one and see? Do you have any images of the dress you think is fake?

What was the shop like that you bought it from? Were there any signs that they might not be on the up and up? You can check on the Mori Lee website and see if the store is an authorized retailer here: http://www.morilee.com/findastore.php if it isn't then I would be concerned... It's a very pretty dress, but everything you've said sounds suspicious...
Well, the shop is an authorized retailer for Mori Lee, but my mother has heard from other local people who say that brides have ordered dresses from them and they ended up with something they didn't order...of course, I didn't know this until after I ordered my dress. I am going to take the shawl with me to a local shop where I live and compare it to their sample. The fabric reminds me more of a '90s nylon wind suit than taffeta.
I do have a picture of me in it from the fitting. It is at least one size too big because they decided to "cross reference" my size by having me try on another dress and going by the size of the one that fit me -- they never took my measurements. This could just mean that they don't know what they're doing.
Can you add a pic of you in the dress you received too? I know it probably isn't altered yet, but it could help us compare...

The picture is of the dress I received..if you compare the flowers on this dress to the ones in the picture from their website, you can see they are not in the same place...you can't get a good idea of the fabric from this picture either, but it just feels heavier and more limp than the samples I tried on.

Hmm. Well the flowers do look a bit different, but I think the positioning of the flowers and the boning are factors of it being too big. You can still see the boning on the model pic a bit, so that may be just how the dress is. I think it will be diminished with some good alterations. Also, if the fabric feels stiffer to you, it could be because sample dresses are tried on a million times, so the fabric gets softer. Try having your dress steamed and see if it feels better. It is a little suspicious, but I don't know how you could prove it, unless the shop would let you see the sample and compare the two, but if they're doing something shady I doubt they'll allow you access to the sample which could prove your case.
Real or fake, I think the dress looks really good on you. I don't think you'd go wrong to keep it and just try to address the fit issue with alterations. I would try to find a seamstress unrelated to that store though.
The Mori Lee website says that the flowers are removable, so that may explain why the positioning is a little different. But, the Mori Lee website also says that the dress comes in white or ivory, not "pearl." I'd continue to contact Mori Lee until you get a response. Good luck!
Thank you all for your comments. Maybe it will look much better once alterations are done. If I keep it I am considering having the boning removed from the bust, and I'm hoping that having it steamed will improve the look of the fabric.
Update: I decided to keep the dress and I asked my seamstress to take out the boning in the bust, and to move the flowers up a little. I will go back next week to have my final fitting (hopefully). I am also considering adding a crinoline underneath to make the skirt a little fuller. I really want to see photos of other brides in this gown!
@Kingcake: I get the virus notification on the mori lee site too - I love their bm dresses!
I recently received and picked up my mori lee 2512 last week. Although I cant say anything to quality or color, mine did come with a matching shawl which was never advertised to me. The store nor the website said nothing about a shawl, but I received one. The store attendant said sometimes the do and sometimes they dont include one. Hope this helps.
I can't access the website either. I get a random (obviously fake) pop-up saying that my browser is old, and then firefox closes, and then I get a note get a messsage about Data Execution Prevention.
Thanks! I think it just didn't look great at first because it was still way too big and had the crazy boning in the chest region. My seamstress took the boning out and added cups, and it looks SO much better...It is beautiful and fits perfectly now!
Yea that totally makes sense as to why it would look off! i'm hoping in a few months my dress is too big, lol, but currently it fits :(
It is scary thinking that any small weight change can affect the fit! I really think weight doesn't matter, as long as the dress fits you properly, you will look great! And curves always look good :)

Hi brides, I just got my Mori Lee 4523 dress, which I was so excited about! I had ordered it in the town where my family lives, even though I am out of state because that is where the wedding is going to be. My mom picked it up last month when it arrived at the bridal shop, and I got my first glimpse of it last week when I went home for my first fitting. When I unzipped the bag, something just didn't look right about the dress. The fabric didn't look as high quality as I remember the sample being, the rosettes on the shoulder were placed lower on the bodice than they should have been, and the boning in the chest area was very obvious. Overall, it didn't look as good as the samples I have seen. Another weird thing is that it came with a matching shawl, which I hadn't known about. I called a bridal shop in another city that carries Mori Lee, and they said that particular dress doesn't come with a shawl. Also, I ordered it in "ivory" but the tag says "pearl". Even though the dress has Mori Lee tags in it, I am concerned that it is not authentic. I have contacted Mori Lee through their website, but haven't heard from them yet.
I don't want to point any fingers, but I need to know if this is in fact the dress I fell in love with. It could just be that my memory is foggy, or that I built it up in my head to be something better than it actually is. I'd love to hear from any other brides who have purchased #4523.
