So I’ve been charting and my post o temps have been all over the place. Of course stressing and obsessing isn’t helping me get good consistent sleep but anyway! I know typically temps increase by average .2 degrees the later you sleep and I found this to be true last week. I had checked my temp once at my usual time and once 2 hours later and the second temp was naturally higher.
Now last night I checked at 430 am (usual temp time 5:15 but I woke up early) and it was 97.53. I then checked it the second time I woke up at 7am expecting it to be significance higher and it dropped to 97.48. It should’ve been around 97.9 since it was taken a couple hours later.
What is going on here?? Would appreciate any insight or even a virtual slap in the face. Sorry for the novel!

You should only be taking your temp once when you first wake up in the morning, before you get out of bed. It`s important to try to get this time as close to the same time each day.
Your temp will naturally flucuate during the day and night.
It’s normal to have it vary a little bit each day.

You are right that temp rises when you oversleep but if you are waking up and then falling back asleep / trying to temp later it won’t be accurate. Also 4:30-7 is 2.5 hours and you need atleast 3-4 hours of solid sleep to temp. I would just use the 4:30am temp its not too far from your waking time.
As for your title question likely your body and thermometer are both normal 😉

My phone won’t let me reply to people individually, but thank you both. I try to only temp once, but I’ve been waking up before my alarm so I temp early and then find myself temping later as a double check. Totally driving myself nutso!
Silver you’re too funny. Thanks for trying to keep me sane. 🙂

@skipper2010: Double checking will drive you crazy – it will nearly always be wrong.
Once in the morning, then lock it away until tomorrow!! 🙂
Oh, and if you’re ever in doubt, check your thermometer batteries. I always found I go strange readings when they were on the way out.
