So today as I already posted we got my daughters' flower girl dresses. We were leaving the store and chatted with one of the employess. She asked my oldest daughter how old she was and commenting on her behaving so well. Then she looked at me and asked "is this your little sister?" Ok, I know I am youngish to have an 7 year old, but come on. She told me she thought I was 18. I told her I wasn't that young and said "And this one is mine too (referring to my 18 month old I was carrying)". Needless to say we left right after that!

ah that's so funny because the opposite always happens to me - I have a 5 year old sister, and I was 19 when she was born.  I should mention that I also happen to look very young.  I used to get some rude comments of people thinking I was too young to be a mom (which would have been especially rude if she was my daughter) but they made all these assumptions about my sister.  People have no tact!

When you are a little older, you will appreciate those comments :-)

I guess I don't see the problem.  Wasn't it better to assume you were younger?

My parents were 39 and 45 when I was born and my siblings ranged from 9 to 19 years when I was born.  TONS of people assumed my oldest sister was my mom (she had a son who is 9 months older than me), and many people referred to my parents as my grandparents.  I guess I don't see why you would expect people to know.

That's ok, my FI's oldest sibling is older than my parents...I mean my dad grew up next door to his brothers and sisters, so when I got dropped off by FI (then a bf) in front of my aunts/uncles they asked who he was and I told them he was "Blah Blah Blah" and my uncle freaked out and demanded to know which one/how old he was...which was funny because he was 17 at the time.

I honestly do not think they were trying to be rude. The other day when I was voting this man said, "Look we have a first time voter with us". I told him that I have voted in two presidental elections and many local elections and he said that I look young.

I guess it is a complement that I will apprechiate more in about 10 years or so. People used to ask if I was one of my mama's sisters because we looked so much a like and my mama looked younger than she was.

I guess that is why they say that you shouldn't assume!
