Hey ladies, wondering how this usually works… if you have already been married, what did you do for your wedding.. did you go first or last for hair and makeup? We have an appointment at 8am and my ceremony is at 2. I worry that this is too much time in between and that I’ll look like a mess by the time the ceremony rolls around. What do you suggest?

I went last for hair and makeup. If it makes you feel any better, our hair appts were at 9:00 and our ceremony was at 5:30!

I was kind of middle of the pack. My hairdresser put the rollers in my hair first, let it set, I got my make up done a while later, and then he finished up my hair just before I put on my dress. While we were doing our first look photos, my BMs finished up with their hair/MU.

I think it all depends on what you are having done to be completely honest. My best friend who got married in March went first but her hair was up with no curls (she has shorter hair). I think that makes alot of sense because you don’t have to worry about curls dieing off.
Now for me I’m the only one getting my hair done so of course i’m doing first but I’m also having my hair down and my hair is naturally straight therefore it doesn’t like to do much so yeah. If all of the other girls were getting there hair done i would go last, but that is not the case LOL

@Gemstone: that does make me feel better thanks!
Thanks for the input ladies.. I’m thinking I’ll probably go last 🙂

I just finished booking my hair appointments for me and the bridesmaids and I was told that they will “set” my hair first but the actual style and make-up will be last. She said that allows me to walk around, enjoy some mimosas and talk to my girls while they are getting ready PLUS it ensures that you leave freshly pressed and made up! 🙂

I was told in the middle was best. That way, you don’t spend the whole time trying not to damage your hairstyle, but then if they start running late you still have time to get yours done right, and the other girls can have simpler, less time consuming styles.

If you’re doing an updo, YES! You want to make sure they take their time to do your hair first, rather then rush later. If you’re doing like loose curls, you may want to consider starting it first (putting in rollers, or curling with an iron and pinning the curl) and then finishing near the end (taking out curlers or pins and styling). That way your curl will have a longer time to set in place. Your hairdresser should be able to tell you who should go when!

As a wedding photographer I always advise that my brides go last for hair and makeup if they want pictures of it because logistically speaking it works best. Not only do you have fresher hair and makeup if you go last, if you were to go first or in the middle and have your photographer there for hours of hair and makeup you are really not making the most of your photography time. I hope that makes sense!!

I am planning to have my hair done in the middle, since I want my makeup done last. I wanted my makeup to look the freshest.

I got my hair done first…then was last to do makeup

I went at 8am and she did my hair until 10:40am. We ended up being 40 minutes behind schedule because it took her a while. My wedding was also at 2pm. None of the girls’ hair fell out or became a mess and mine didn’t either. My wedding was also at 2pm and everyone looked great!

I went 2nd to last for my hair. My stylist doesn’t like to do brides last just in case she’s crunched for time but going 2nd to last still allowed my hair to be pretty fresh. She touched me up a bit right before she left, though. I went last for my MU but there were only 2 of us having it done (my Maid/Matron of Honor and I, all of my girls had their hair done).
Our hair and MU were complete by 12:30 ish and our ceremony didn’t start until 5:30. With the exception of a few of my BM’s curls coming out (she has temperamental hair anyway – we fixed it though), everyone still looked fabulous.

Last weekend I was in a wedding, and the bride was the second to get her hair curled and set, but the last to get her hair done. She was the last to get her make-up done as well (make-up before hair).

I got married last weekend and my hair was the LAST to be done. I wore it down and curly. I did my own makeup though so I’m not sure about that part!
