The return address can be printed. I've heard they should be blind embossed or engraved in black ink, but that can be pretty expensive... if you can stick it through your printer and get the ink directly on the envelope that would probably be best; a clear label would be second best, and a white/paper return address label would be third best. You definitely don't have to hand-write every one!
We printed the return address on the back of the envelope. I think it ended up being just fine. I also love the stamps or little engravers you can get pretty reasonably - I think they add a nice touch.
We had our return address printed ont he back of the envelope also. We also had clear labels to address the envelopes to our guests. We had 240 guests so it made it easier to print out labels... :)

Hey we are addressing our invitations this weekend! We are having a formal dinner at the reception and so I want to use proper etiquette. Our invitations are DIY so I didn't have a person at teh invitation place to counsel with. I know how names are supposed to be written on the outer and inner envelopes and I know that they should be hand written, but Should your return address on the outer and inner envelope be hand written as well? Or can you hand write their address and use a printed sticker for your return address? Responses appreciated :)
