My phone right now is old... it's the old pink razr. I've had it for 3 years and it's pretty worn out.

I can get the 16GB iphone for $199 on a 3 year contract. My monthly bill will be about the same price with minor changes (less minutes which is fine because I never talk on my phone).

My best friend/MOH has it and so do both my parents and they love it.

I'm just wondering if it's worth it??

I know I'll use the internet for email, facebook, weddingbee, etc...

    Um. Let's see.

    YES! YES! and YES!

I love my iPhone!!! You can get a refurbished 3G for $50 and I'm pretty sure you can get the 3GS refurbished now for ~$100. Check AT&T or Apple's site.

As for monthly bills, I really don't think it's that much more than any other smart phone plan. The FI was never big on the cell phone thing but once he got the iPhone, he's a whiz on that thing!

And FYI AT&T does rollover on your minutes. And you can DL free texting apps so you don't have to pay for that either.

Idk. I guess it would probably just depend on how much you use it. My mom had it and 3 months later sold it cuz she barely ever used any of the bazillion apps on it. Theres two reasons why I don't want an iphone...one: the price is rediculous and two: I can't stand at&t.

I love my iPhone. If you think you'll use the other features, such as the email and Facebook apps and various bits then go for it. It really is an awesome piece of tech. It's great for me because FH plays the games on it during the night and I can check my emails in rehearsals without having to use a big bulky laptop.

Have you had a play with it instore first? I'd do that, just so that you can see how it feels. I know people who love the concept but hate the way that the navigation works (I don't see how personally!) so that might be worth doing. But I think it's great.

    YES!!!!

I got mine in July of last year and I absolutely LOVE it. It's extremely convenient, and you have nearly every little thing at your fingertips. I'm sort of an Apple freak, so next to my MacBook, this was one of the best investments I've ever made!!

    I vote YES!!

I had an iPhone for about a year and I really enjoyed it. Over time though I just found myself using the apps less and less (not a facebook user anymore, don't need to check my personal e-mails when I'm not at home) so I got rid of it. I now use a Blackberry World Edition strictly for work and it does the job.

I also decided to get rid of it because it seems like every person and their dog has an iPhone now, I just thought it became more of a trend than anything.

Here's the thing...yes the iphone has a lot of apps blah blah blah..is it worth the cost..I'd have to say NO!  My FI and I thought OMG we have to have iphones...not realizing it would cost us $175 a month!  I think this is crazy!  Not only do I not use it as much as I would like, but I always have problems with it!  I never once had a dropped call until I got my iphone.   Now it happens every day!  Not to mention as soon as you get whichever model is available now, they will start to sell a new "better version" the next day.  Its like a car..as soon as they come out with an upgrade it goes out of style.  Although the iphone is a good idea and has awesome capabilities I def think you'd be better off with another phone.  All said and done you will spend a fortune on the iphone.  The plan, service contract, chargers, the iphone its self, apps that cost money, if you want a cover...adn the list goes on....

Also check with your employer if they are with AT&T. Mine is and I get an additional 8% off my monthly bills.

    Whatever floats your boat. Cool

And I really have to disagree with everyone who is saying it is uber expensive. The FI surprised me with a brand spanking new one. So yes, that was expensive. But when we got his we got him a refurbished one for $50. That's nothing ot get a new phone nowadays. As for the plans, we have a family plan and we have the base, cheapest plan, FI has the minimal texting plan and I use free texting and our bill is not $175 a month...and I do not ever buy a APP. FREE apps all the way.

But I will have to agree that AT&T service sucks more than Sprint. But I wouldnt' say I have dropped calls all the time. It really depends on the service area.

I have a Blackberry and I love it, but I want an iphone. I hope the AT&T exclusivity ends soon.

And for the record, my dog doesn't have an iPhone. He was all "Woof, woof! Can I get an iPhone?" and I was all "Get a job, freeloader!"

i used to think it was silly to have such a fancy phone (i don't, my phone is very simple and old) but it's very convenient! my fi has it and when we're out and have a stupid question, we just look it up. awesome. he uses it all the time so it's worth it for him, it probably depends how much you'll use it. for me, i guess i'm fine with my computer still.

    I hate my iphone.

I never wanted it in the first place but got it because FI wanted one and felt guilty spending that much on himself (but was happy to spend twice as much on us both...?)

It's nice to be able to check email and look things up online on the fly, but it SUCKS as a phone.  The AT&T service isn't great, and the device itself is just not user friendly.  It's a 3 step process to make a call then the screen times out and you need to do a few more steps just to disconnect the call.  I can't hear anything unless I use the earbuds which are just one more thing to clutter up my bag.  Because they have the extra mic area built in, the right one is too heavy & falls out of my ear when I'm running using the ipod function.

The apps are (mostly) a waste of money, and the novely wears off quickly.  To date, I've downloaded about 6 and use 2: Facebook and a Christmas countdown (yes, I'm looking forward to next Xmas already).  FI has downloaded over 40, uses them for a few days and does not use a single one consistently.

If I didn't feel like it would be an even BIGGER waste of money, I'd toss it and get my odl phone back.  It was wonderful at it's primary function, and I think a PHONE should be good a being a PHONE.

It also sent shocks through my ears all day Monday, so if possible I hate it even more now.

    Wow lots of feedback!

1st off, I'm in Canada so we have Telus, Bell, Rogers, Fido, and a few other ones.

I'm on Telus and right now my monthly bill is around $58.

With the iphone, I can get the "iphone 50" plan that is 100 minutes, umlimited text messaging, voicemail, call waiting, caller ID for $57 plus tax. So it's about $2 more than what I'm already paying.

I was really worried my monthly bill would be really expensive but it's not!!

I would definitley use the aps. I check my hotmail over my phone now about 10 times a day (mostly for wedding stuff) and I love to go on facebook so I think it would be worth it for sure after reading what everyone said...

I like my iphone, but I don't know if it is really worth it.  I pay like $100/month for the thing (combined with my husband's iphone too) and I don't feel like I really use the apps or the music that much.  I basically just use it for calls and for checking email.  The internet on it can be slow and half the time the pages don't load right because it doesn't have flash.   A lot of the time it doesn't let you type correctly into comment boxes either.

My brother has the iphone.  He is a mac / apple fanatic ad he does love his phone, but every time I talk to him we get disconnected. The phone or ATT drops calls like crazy.  He even admits he hates it and he hardly ever talks on the phone.

I agree with twalia- My iPhone sucks as a phone lol

However, I do use some of the apps on a daily basis ie:loseit!, facebook, chuzzle. lol

I like my phone but its so expensive and I wish it made better phone calls.

Like I mentioned above, I don't talk on my phone. The plan I have now, I get 184 minutes a month. Last month I used 47 minutes and the month before that I used 55 minutes...

I mostly use my phone for texting and internet.

I think after reading all this, I'm going to head to the mall tonight to pick it up.

I'm really attached to my pink razr (it's been an amazing phone) but it's old :-( I'll be writing a text msg and then all of a sudden the screen goes white and then takes me back to the main screen. It also doesn't hold a charge at all!

I don't know if it's a country thing but I don't have trouble with actual PHONE facilities on my iPhone. However I did at one point have my phone freeze on my constantly and when I took it to the genius bar the woman told me that I had to make sure I turned my phone off for a couple of minutes every 3-5 days because it's essentially a mini-computer, so even when you shut down an app it still runs in the background to make opening it again easier.
So now I turn my phone off for a couple minutes once a week and it works a treat. I've not had it freeze or do anything since. I'm just wondering if that's what the dropped call issue is.

Yes yes yes yes!  I was totally against the iphone and got my DH an itouch.  I was addicted and as soon as we were able to get iphones we did (the day before our wedding!)  I was very apprehensive about it because of the keyboard - Im used to being able to feel what I am typing.  But it is sooo easy, much faster and accurate than using a touchpad.  The charge will die out fast if you use alot of apps but it also charges back up very quickly.

    You lost me at Celsius.

The promised, no THREATENED, us in school that we had to learn metric because someday the US was going to convert over. Oh the panic for third grader MissACS! I was terrible at math! I couldn't convert! I'd never know how tall I was or dress appropriately for the weather! I'd certainly die alone, cold, of indeterminate height!

Did they convert? No! And now I don't need to know the metric system because there is the internet, and I can Google conversions (on my smart phone!) and find out answers. The end.

I really wanted to get an iphone but did NOT want to switch to AT&T.  Instead, I got a droid from Verizon.  It doesn't have as many apps as the iphone and might be a little slower, but i really like it...and i got to stick w/ verizon :)  i still have full screen internet, gps, tons of apps, etc.

I have an iPhone, and I love it. My favorite feature is the GPS and the maps, because I constantly get lost.

My FI just got rid of his iPhone, but he did it because he's a software engineer and he hates that Apple is not an open system and charges their developers. So unless you've got some weird software/open source ethical thing like he does, then go for it.

I know some people think that they are trendy and don't want one because everyone has one; I used to be the same way. Until I realized that everybody has one because they're so functional.

Might be nice, but ATT is an awful company. I'm in a huge fight with them over getting the phone service turned off at a home I no longer live. They billed for service after the discontection date and it's been months and hours on the phone to try to straighen out the billing.

I don't have the iphone but I do have the blackberry tour. I love it! The reason I chose that over iphone is that you can't run more than one application on the iphone. With the blackberry I am able to do all of the same things that the iphone can do (for a much lower cost) and I haven't ever had a problem with it. There are TONS of apps, most of which I have gotten for free! I don't know a whole lot about At&T but a friend of mine has had awful experiences with their phones and customer service. I have a one year warantee and if anything happens to my phone I get a new one for free!

I don't remember how to function without my iPhone.

I've had a Blackberry Pearl and a Blackberry Curve.  They can't and don't touch the iPhone. Although it loses a charge quickly if you use it heavily like I do, it charges back up in a flash.

It's also the most resilient phone I've ever had!! I've dropped it into a sink full of water twice.  I've dropped it on the ground more times than I can count. Still works like a charm!  My Blackberry(s)... not so much.

All we need now is the Weddinbee iPhone app... hinthint

@ Blueshoes...I second the weddingbee app.  I'm holding out for AT&T's exclusivity with Apple to end (or my contract with verizon to end) but I have an iPod touch so I would love the weddingbee app!!!
