My midwife recommended I get protein powder when I wasn't able to keep food down, so I know it's not all dangerous. I wouldn't use the bulk up crazy whey stuff that body builders use because they have those added supplements and who knows what else. We just got some vegetarian protein powder from whole foods. There's a warning on the back to check with your doctor during pregnancy which we did and she said it was fine. I would stay away from anything with animal products because I don't need any more hormones running through my veins than I already have!
As long as you check to make sure of all the ingredients and vitamins in the powder are safe during pregnancy it should be fine. You could also bring the can to your next appointment.
I have LOVED the brand Loves & Peas protein powder, it's not soy based, and not whey either (although whey should be fine for you too), it's a pea protein. It's really good, it comes in a vanilla flavor and I add it to my green smoothies every day
You can get it HERE on Amazon.
I have not been pregnant, but my favorite protein powders are these:
Both are plant-based, easily digested, and easily absorbed by the body. Like Moja said, it's of course a good idea to check with your doctor to be sure, but I have friends who have consumed these protein powders while pregnant & they felt great.
I would recommend using skim milk powder. You get the same protein but WAY cheaper and you know its safe during pregnancy.

I have always had protein shakes as my inbetween meals to stop snacking, plus they aid in muscle recovery and I do (still even while pregnant) do lots of weight/resistance training. Once i got pregnant I stopped because they all seem to say on the label not to be used if pregnant.
Does or has anyone used a protein shake powder that is safe during pregnancy?
