Is there such thing as THE dress?

Here's my story...My dress was one of the first I tried on.  We went to several salons after that, just to be sure, but I always came back to mine.

Shortly after picking THE dress...we changed our venue. And I pictured more of a princessey dress...but after trying more dresses (after buying mine) I still came back to it.

Everytime we go to David's Bridal, I find more dresses I love.  But in the back of my head I always say, but mine is the best.

Until today. They have their new dresses out and when my  mom and I saw this one, we fell instantly in love. Nothing like my original dress. And now I'm torn.  Seriously torn...not just dress envy.  This one fits our venue. I'm super concerned about my dress getting wrinkled and I know Fi has a dress more like #2 in mind.

What to do? My mom wants me to go try the new dress on...that way I'm sure.

well can you afford to buy another dress? then what would you do with the first dress? think about that before trying another on because if you love the new one of course youre going to have to get it.

I personally believe the dress should match YOU and not your venue.  What can it hurt to try it on?  You'll either love it enough to change your mind or it will solidify that your first dress is it.

I think dresses are a lot like boyfriends.  There are a lot out there worth dating/trying on/loving, but only one you're going to end up walking down the aisle with.

They are both from David's Bridal and my location is super great about exchanges and returns.  I also fit into their dresses right off the rack...so no alterations (my wedding is only 70 days away!)

if it hasnt been that long since youve bought your old dress and it hasnt been altered ...DB can exchange the dress for you. thats what happened to me. I ordered a dress and liked it but not LOVE but then i found a dress i loved and they made sure to return the other dress and got me the dress I really wanted!!

I really wouldnt recommend looking at other dresses after youve found yours. (something I myself need to do) because I feel you most of the time will find something you love the same if not more and thats just nto a fun place to be in. :)

Both dresses are beautiful btw, but if your getting married at disneyland then the new dress would be amazing princess feel!

It doesn't look like your original dress would wrinkle.  Would they even be able to order it and alter it in time? I second J.  If you really love the second dress take a close look at your budget and be realistic on how much you could get for your original dress.

Most importantly, you will look AMAZING on your wedding day, no matter which dress you wear.  (Especially if you have the bod to wear dress #1!!!)

I think there is such a thing for "the dress" for each wedding. You change your venue, your whole wedding changes. I know, I'm going through this right now--and my dress was the right one for my old venue and the wrong one for my new one!

If you can afford it, pick the dress that fits your venue, wedding and happiness best. Good luck!

    Thanks!

@mermaid1082..I keep trying to tell myself it should fit me and not the venue. I guess maybe I'm looking for more in between.  Something that fits both...

@osakagrl...I keep thinking that #2 fits our venue better...but I also don't want to get the same kind of traditional dress that everyone wears. I like that mine's a bit different.

@sunnyb77... I wouldn't need to worry about ordering it because it's new so it will barely be tried on. Plus I fit into DB's off the rack and since there's no train...no alterations needed. My MOH is a wedding photographer and has had a few brides with Dress #1. She said it wrinkles super easy! I'm worried about just getting in the car!

It sounds like you can exchange without much hassle, so go for it if you want. But there is no such thing as "the dress." In other words, you're never going to find a dress you love so much that no other dress will appeal to you. Whether you exchange your dress or not, if you keep looking at new dresses, you'll keep getting second thoughts. It doesn't mean you made the wrong choice - you would look equally amazing in many dresses, but can only choose one.

PS I love them both - don't think you can go wrong with either :)

I can exchange fairly easy...I know I should stop looking at dresses...it's not fair that I can only have one, lol.  My dress is just starting to make me nervous.  Between the wrinkleness...not fitting the venue...and I think it's the opposite of what DF loves and pictures me in.  Ugh...choices!

I changed my mind after buying my first dress before our venue changed. I'm so glad I went with my gut feeling and took the plunge to go with another dress. It was totally the right decision and I have no regrets. If you seriously love the second dress (I adore it!!!) go for it!

I have seen a few brides in your first dress and it is pretty but personally I like the second one and I say try it on!

I was in David's Bridal this past weekend and I fell in LOVE with dress number two.  It's so gorgeous and even prettier in person.  If you can afford a second dress I say go try it on and see which one you really like better.

Dress one is pretty, but how I adore dress two.

I think if depends on if you have the money to change (or if someone like your mom is willing to pay for the change.)  For me, that would really be the determining factor.

Also, will you need different shoes for this dress?  A different veil?  Different jewelry?  All of those things add up as far as money goes.

If it's that easy to change, I would. And then stop looking at dresses! :)

Thank you everyone for your opinions.

@BellaMae There's not really a cost difference because Dress #1 still needs alterations where Dress #2 wouldn't need any.  My jewelry would still work except for my head piece (flower/feathers) but that's about it.  My current shoes ended up beign too high for my dress right now so I was already returning/exchanging them.

@Miss Britt  Thanks for posting that. I'm excited to see it in person and see it on. Who knows...maybe this is all for not...it might be awful on me!!

I think it all boils down to what YOU are going to feel more comfortable and happy in. If you think you're going to have dress regret and the exchange is as easy as you make it sound, then go for dress 2. Princess-y dresses are not my cup of tea (I'm short, they wear ME), but if I did like them then I would probably fall in love with the second dress too.

No such things as THE dresses. There are many dresses, in many styles, that would be great for a given bride. I also feel like the dress should reflect you, not the venue. If you can afford getting the second dress, then why not? Sounds like you are pretty set on it, and would be disappointed with your first pick.

    @MariaNYC

I haven't made up my mind yet...but I guess I have valid concerns for my current dress. At the same time, I have tried on other dresses and just keep coming back to mine.  I just want to try the other one to be 100% sure...it's so pretty!! I'm not usually a fan of princess dresses but there is just something about this one.  Either way I don't think I'll be dissapointed...I just want to be sure.  And it's not really about affording it since I will be exchanging my current dress.

I really like Dress 2 the best. Dress 1 is beautiful as well though. Only you know which one you really want and a girl determined gets things done!

It will be right no matter what!  You could wear a trash bag down the aisle and it would still be right.  End result is the same, just remember that!

Lol  @Mermaid...you have a beautiful dress though!! It doesn't suprise me, I have changed my mind about a bunch of things throughout the wedding. It wouldn't suprise me if I ended up with the same dress. But I still gotta try...so I KNOW!

Sorry, I hadn't realized you hadn't tried on the 2nd dress yet. Try it on, you may be surprised (good or bad), I know I was for a couple of dresses that I loved in picture, but just did nothing for me when I put them on. So try it on, and let us know!!

i think that when you know you know. i tried on at least 20 gowns and none of them were the one until i tried on the gown i ended up buying. i put it on, i could move around in it and it made me look so elegant. i woke up at 4 am the next morning after sleeping on my decision and i freaked out because i thought that the woman at the store might have said it was discontinued (it wasn't). i knew right then that it was the dress i should buy.

personally, i think that second dress is beautiful for a wedding at wdw, but you might change your mind when you try it on.

I think dress2.jpg is gorgeous.  Dress1.jpg is very pretty as well but dress2 was just stunning to me.
