oneflute85    7/24/10   Richmond, VA/ getting married in Albany, NY

So, We are getting married half way between my family & my FIs family.  Everyone coming to the wedding has at least a 2.5 hr. drive to the wedding. We are traveling 12 hrs, and my parents are a 3 day drive. As of right now, more than 1/2 the guests are staying in local hotels.  My question is, would this be considered a destination wedding?  And if so, should I plan on making bags for the guests who are staying in the hotels of things to do in the area? I am so confused.

thanks for the help fellow bees!

I would definitely consider that a destination wedding in my book.

Bags would be a nice gesture especially since hotels and gas aren't cheap :)

As for what to put in them would all depend on the location and theme and all that :)

Yes I'd consider it a destination wedding as well, I would check the visitors guide, many times they'll give you the pamphlets etc that you can pick up at the visitors center for free that would be really nice to incorporate as well as special historic sites in the area and possibly local restaurants.

Definately a Destination...Yes, if you can afford it bags for your guests will be most welcomed.

Many options for what to include, several posts on this site (OOT Bags) etc.

Chamber of Commerce or similar can help with local information, snacks are great as well as a letter introducing you both, maybe a "schedule of events" or maps etc.

    Good Luck!

I'd consider it a destination - we're in a similar boat. I think OOT bags are great IF you can afford them, and depending on what the hotels come with and whether you're leaving guests 'on their own' or having events/meals for them over the day/weekend.

We're not doing OOT bags because the hotel rooms already come with things like coffee etc. plus we (well our parents really) are hosting most of the meals over the weekend.

If you do make bags, I agree with the posts above, include info on local things to do and places to see, plus snacks!
