Unless anything expected comes up, the only ultrasound Darling Husband and I really got was our 18 week one and it wasn’t 3d. We had talked about maybe paying privately for a 3D one, but we ended up dropping the subject. Now I’m thinking about giving Darling Husband a gift certificate for it for Christmas. It’s $150 for like 20 minutes of viewing time, several photos, and a video set to music. Is that weird/creepy though? I’m trying to decide if it is worth it. If you got a 3d private scan, was it worth it?

I’m not pregnant or have been pregnant so I’ve never done a 3d scan but I think it sounds like a really great Christmas present.

I didn’t have one – but would love to!
However, my ultrasound tech said that it’s not a good idea to get them before 27 weeks because the baby doesn’t have much fat and when they’re skinny and bony, they can look kind of creepy and alien-like and some people get freaked out, lol.

I’m cautious on giving anything that’s just as much of a gift for me as it is for him, and this gift might fall under that category. For example, it feels more like a gift for him if I buy him a season of DVDs for a show he loves that I don’t really get into than if I buy him one for a show we both like. Or maybe I’m just weird about it – anyone else like that?

Why would you think it’s weird/creepy?
My husband on the other hand does find 3D scans creepy so it’s a no go for us! hhaha

Yeah this is more for both of you than it is for him, so I dont think its a good gift for him.

I wouldn’t make it a gift for him. I would make it something you both choose to do together.
But I do find the 3d ultrasounds creepy! My husband really wants one, but man. They look like the baby is carved out of rock.

It’s a really generous idea, but I don’t believe it’s something for Christmas.

I think it’s a nice gift if this is something he wants to do. Yes you will enjoy it too but that’s how experience gifts work quite frequently.

I don’t find them creepy, but I do find them unneccesary. If it were me I would rather have a nice dinner out or a night in a hotel with the $150.

I did one & I loved being able to get a sneak peek of my baby…He came out looking just like the 3d photos.
Unless DH was the one who really wanted to do it I don’t think it’s a good idea for an xmas present though.
If you have a few extra bucks I would go for it but if you have to choose between the 3d scans & something else…go for the something else.
