I did a bit of research before posting…that’s definitely a good price compared to what we get here in Michigan, so I’d say if you like them, go for it!

Couldn’t you ask a friend to MC? That’s what most people do at weddings I’ve been to. There isn’t much the MC really does – just make a few announcements over the course of the reception.

We’ve asked a friend to MC – he has only a handful of announcements to make. He’ll announce the bridal party, and us, announce who’s next for speeches, give out the “house rules”, announce the first dance/cake cutting, and then announce the bouquet toss. It sounds like a lot – but in total it’s probably 8 minutes of speaking.

I’m not a professional on what a DJ is or isn’t supposed to do, but our DJ is our emcee as well, I didn’t think DJ’s did not do this.

well, I learned something new today! 🙂

what? I never heard of hiring an MC. In my area an MC is someone you know so they can add cute stories and funny things while announcing things, having a stranger do this seems so weird.

@Tinkerbride13:  The lowest price I saw here was $250.  That was just googling for a few minutes, but I saw a lot that were WAY more than that, too!

Mulan05 :  It’s about 8 minutes of speaking but remember, it is 3-6 hours of their life that they are dedicating to your big day as well as all of the responsibility of running the entire event on schedule and making sure that you dont have to pay overtime because your reception ran behind schedule. They have one of the most important responsibilities. My Emcee saved us $2000 in overtime that we would have had to pay had they not kept us on track.

If she is only charging $175, I would make sure you give her a great tip.
