Okay, I had dress regret and changed dresses about a month ago at which time I listed the dress that was already bought and paid in full. Yesterday I got a correspondence from a woman that was interested… and willing to pay through Paypal? Then this morning I got this email from her? Sounds like a scam…. but if she’s paying through Paypal, that is legit at least? Not sure if I should respond to her or not? Here’s the email:
I am happy to hear that the wedding dress is still for sale,Thanks for your response,i am a Naval officer, Navy fraternity! Hospital/ Field Medic. My husband served in Desert Storm and is currently stationed in Korea and My son leaves for the Marines on the 22nd of this month to boot camp in South Carolina. I served from 1988 to 1996 in reserve status with the exception of my company 24 Mar Div/ 4th Bart (Detroit) was deployed for the Desert Shield / Storm conflict. I am currently on sea due to my status of work and our ship is presently in Pretoria south Africa now from there we are moving to Brooklyn New York for our service. Am purchasing the dress for my lovely daughter that is getting married here in Pretoria south Africa next week before our ship move on and I know she will look amazingly beautiful on the dress, i can’t find a beautiful wedding dress here in Pretoria that is why i have to check with craigslist for her dress and these is not the first time am purchasing on craigslist. These wedding dress is gorgeous for her and she is very happy that her mom is buying it for her. I will like to ask you some question regarding the dress.
1.Are you the real owner?

3.How much is the final asking price?
I will be looking forward to read from you asap

I’d say scam. The grammar is terrible, and there’ve been a lot of scams with those kinds of “delivery services.”

@yumiyumi: It sounds incredibly fishy to me. The simple fact that ‘she’ feels it necessary to list her entire family’s military history seems off (never mind the grammar).

oh, yes, it’s a scam. i had something similar when i was selling some expensive jewellery. they were in the navy, at sea and they were buying it for someone else. they wanted to pay with paypal and they wanted it delivered asap. i got a whole back story which was completely unnecessary. thank goodness it sounded fishy and i asked for cash. they tried the scam again with another large ticket item that i was selling.
i looked into it. what they do is give paypal a bad credit card number and paypal doesn’t catch it right away. the payment is denied but you have already sent the item. paypal claws the payment back from the seller. the seller is then out of the money and the item.

It’s a scam, google one or two of the sentences, it comes up. They contacted me too. Also, I had to find out you weren’t buying my dress through your other posts. Pretty rude – just saying. I think an email would have been courteous.

Scam. Those I’m-out-of-the-country/courier-service things are always a scam.
