As long as it isnt the only favor I think it would be fine. to make it flow though, I'd make sure the rest of that display has something funny to show for it. Otherwise it will be out of place
If that isn't the only favor, I can see guests' reactions like "Oh the whole wedding was beautiful and extravagant, but then they gave out these tchochke pens". It could go either way- add humor or, if no one 'gets' it, backfire.
Personally I think it's funny. I always need pens. But, yeah, I agree it shouldn't be the only favor. Maybe do the pens and some yummy edible?
I think it’s really funny and I'm sure all my friends and close family would joke about it because they have a great sense of humor, but idk how old fashion people would take it; I voted go for it cause its YOUR day!! :)
Funny! But only if there are other favors! I agree, this will add a touch of humor to the night.
I think it's funny, but like everyone else I think you should provide another favor, maybe a quirky photo booth or another comical whimsical favor
I think it's funny, and I DON'T think you need to include another favour. Sheesh. Guests should be happy they're getting anything at all, and everyone can always use another pen! (And if people don't get that joke, they need to get out more.)

Rather than a guest book, I was planning on doing some 'fill in the blank' type cards similar to Mrs. Avocado. Because the cards would take a bit longer for guests to fill out, I would need to provide more than the usual one pen. I was thinking that next to the guest book I would fill a containter with 100 pens or so that were engraved with:
'I went to the Smith/Brown Wedding, and all I got was this stupid pen.'
The rest of the wedding is fairly traditional/upscale/fancy event...so I thought this would add a bit of humor. I don't think I'm really counting this as a 'favor', but clearly, a guest could take them home if they wished (there will be plenty!).
