when I was in university, I was really short of money, so I applied for help from the student support fund. I was given a £500 bursary (about $800) to pay my rent, which never has to be paid back. I wrote the man who donated the money (who’s an alumnus of my college) a letter to thank him and have been writing to him occasionally since then, to update him about what’s going on in my life and (particularly) my career.
I realised this morning that I hadn’t written since February, in which time quite a lot has happened, including completing my postgraduate diploma and my graduation ceremony from my undergraduate degree. I decided to send him a 6×4 copy of my graduation photo along with the letter. Since I sent the letter, I wonder if it’s a bit weird as we’ve never met in person – all of the correspondence has been by post. I did write on the back my name and the date of my graduation for when the photo inevitably ends up under a pile of stuff and no one can work out who I am!
So, what do you think? Weird, or a sweet gesture?

I go for sweet! It must be nice for him to see that helping you out ended up supporting your actual graduation.

It’s a really sweet gesture, if he finds it weird he can just bin the picture (but I’m sure he won’t)
However I have to admit I did vote oh Poll! because that made me lol
Congrats on the degree!

I think this is sweet. I had a ton of people helping me and pulling for me when I decided to go to nursing school (Idid something really unconventional and ended up being the school’s youngest ever grad)and I wish I wouldv’e thought to do this!

I think it’s a good idea! At least he’ll know you graduated and his money did not go to waste on a drop out!

Thanks everyone! No idea why I started worrying about this after I posted it! How daft

I agree it’s sweet. He can see how much he’s helped you 🙂

I agree with everyone else, definitely a sweet gesture!

Yeah, I think if I’d helped somebody I’d love to see a picture that they succeeded. I think it’s a sweet gesture.
