Hi ladies! This is my first real post, but I've been on the site for a long time. Thought I'd join the fun now that the big day is coming up.
I guess I'm what you'd call an offbeat bride. FI and I share a love for Star Wars, renn. faires, steampunk, comics, Burton, pin-ups and gaming (well not me so much on gaming). I wanted the wedding to reflect us but still be elegant. It's being thrown in a little 18th century estate building along a wooded creek. The colors are burgundy and royal blue along with black and white striped accents. The whole thing is Burton themed but not overly so.
Originally I was dying to have a replica of Fleur Delacour's dress from HP&TDH pt 1. Of course on a self-paid DIY budget that wasn't going to happen. My mother talked me into trying on dresses in the boutique where we found her gown 2 years ago. The lady who remembered me and had a dress pulled and waiting when we arrived. I'll admit I hated it right away. I tried it on to be polite and hot dang if it wasn't a SYTTD moment. Mom cried, strangers stopped and cried, and I turned into giggly mess. I tried on a bunch of other dresses and styles and had three more shop visits but nothing beat this dress.
Then I went on Weddingbee to see if I could find it. There were 2 posts that included it and most of the shared opinions were negative. Looking at the model picture I can't blame anyone. I saw it and was like "Hells to the no! You have to be kidding!" I feel like it looks better on though, and I also feel like it will fit my theme. Its going to run about $850 altogether but my Mom liked it so much she offered to gift it to me. What do you guys think?
Model Pic. Holy Ruffled mess. And WHAT is on her head???

Now on me. I'll be adding to the train so its a bit longer. I love the buttons and bow in back. I will probably do a birdcage veil instead with pinup style hair. May change to a black sash and small fascinator for reception. Excuse my face and hair this was an unplanned visit.

ignore the back cleavage. corset was too tight.

I think you look amazing in that dress and the dress is beautiful! I def think you made the right choice!
I think you look GORGEOUS in it! Who cares if strangers don't like it, though? What matters is you feel beautiful in it. Everyone has varying tastes, and yes I will admit the model pics for this dress aren't very flattering. But you rock it!
I seriously love this dress and it looks amazing on you! I don't understand why there would be negative threads about it but from my perspective, it's a beautiful, ruffly, flattering dress that YOU LOVE! That's all you need :)
love it! its so beautifully unique and looks great on you! i love the ruffles
Wow! I didn't expect so many replies so quick! Thanks so much ladies for all the kind words. You made me feel a lot better about my choice. I can't wait to get it now. :)
don't worry about the model! If you feel beautiful in it and love it, you will look even more radiant on your wedding day than if you wore something that you weren't in love with. Go for it!
It looks so much better on you! It's not a strange looking dress - I've seen dresses with ruffled bottoms that really look weird. Yours looks good!
I think it looks beautifull, on you & on the model. I think it just looked weird on the model, because of the way she has her arms.
Great choice!!
I LOVE this dress! it remindes me of Lazaro 3050 which is like $4500 and you've got your beautiful, emotionally-tied gown from the same bridal boutique that your mom got her dress AS A GIFT! It flows just beautifully down to the ground and it really is flattering!
Don't question it! You look great! :D
@WhatPicketFence: I think it looks amazing on you! I think sometimes when people see a picture of a model in a dress it doesn't always translate to the actual dress when it's worn in real life...some dresses are pretty on the hanger and not so much off. Or vice versa.
I think the dress sounds like it will fit right in to your theme as well. The idea of a black sash and fascinator is cute - would be neat to see pics of it if you choose to go that way for the reception. You look gorgeous in it don't let anyone tell you differently! :)
I have to admit that when I saw the pic on the model I was like "oh no..." but then I saw the pics of you in that same dress and WOW you look so fabulous in that dress. I think the dress is wearing the model, but you are definitely wearing that dress. It is totally flattering on you!
i think because there's not so much volume in the ruffles on you vs. the model...they look very stiff and a little over-the-top on the model, but it does look AMAZING on you! are you going with white or ivory?
Looks like you've already got the support you needed, but I'll add to the compliments- you make that dress. I don't hate it on the model, but it's beautiful on you!
I'll be another to jump on the wagon and honestly say that you look lovely in that dress. I am usually not a fan of ruffles, but they suite you (and your body) very well!
I think this is fab on you! I have to admit that ruffled dresses are not usually my favourite, but you look amazing in this. Also the back of it so beautiful, with all those tiny buttons. I don't like the model photo of my own wedding dress, and every time I see it I have a tiny niggling doubt but I have to keep reminding myself that it looked ok on me (wasn't allowed photos, so desperately trying to hold on to the memory until it arrives for fittings!!). Forget the model photo, and look at how your eyes are shining in your own photos instead!
It definitely takes a certain person and theme to pull that dress off, but I think it looks FABULOUS on you and would fit with your theme perfectly!
Don't care what other people think ,if you love it, get it!!
I think it looks great on too! It looks much better in your pictures where the ruffles are natural and flowy than on the model where the ruffles look artificially starched to stick out.
I purposely read everything you posted before looking at the pictures. I expected the dress to be god-awful, but I actually like it! I don't know why people wouldn't. It's not crazy looking, and it looks great on you! I say go for it!!
I think it will suit your theme well and it looks FANTASTIC on you. Go for it!
Some people don't like ruffles. I am not one of those peoples. I absolutely love that dress, but more importantly love it on you. It is beyond flattering, not too traditional or too modern, and a great price!
it is stunning on you!
LOL this is why you should never judge a dress by how it looks on a model! You look fantastic :)
And seriously, what IS that on her head? Did they run out of veils and decide to have her wear a shower puff instead?
GO FOR IT!!!! you look amazing..and if you had that moment- you cant say no....or else that dress will haunt you!
