I would leave it alone. But on a different note - you don't seem entirely satisfied with your dress (based on this and other posts). Are you thinking of looking elsewhere, or just trying to make the best of it? (I love it on you - I'm just trying to read between the lines!)
I think that I am just getting antsy waiting for it to come in and I do want to make a couple of changes to it (e.g., thin the straps and drop the back) so that it feels like a custom made dress just for me
I was just brainstorming about adding the lace too, but maybe I'm going over the top on my alterations hehe. Thanks for your input!
i know this, um, totally disagrees with my prior post about shortening my own train, but i feel like there are SOOO many dresses out there, that every bride should be able to find her perfect dress without having to do too much to it.
if youreally love the dress and want the lace, do it. but if you really just love silk-overlay, maybe you should keep looking for something that fits that bill more closely.
xo!
I think you'd be taking a bit of a risk by adding lace to the dress. Then what happens if you DO add it, and decide that it looks bad? That would be really awful!!!! Also, if I were not over the moon about my dress, I'd still be searching for the right one...it doesn't have to hit you like a ton of bricks that it is "the one," but you do have to feel like a million bucks and the most beautiful woman alive in it...so keep that in mind!
I agree with the others, and in particular with KatieBug - it is a big risk altering your dress in such a dramatic way. It's a beautiful dress the way it is.
Thanks so much ladies!!! It seems like it is a unanimous vote for leaving it without the lace. I looked back through the pics of the day that I found this dress and remembered how much I loved it and felt like a classic beauty in the dress. I think that I've made up my mind to stop looking at other dresses because it just makes me want to make more changes to an already perfect dress
Thanks again!!!
I agree that keeping your dress (relatively) the way it is would be a good idea. The lace overlay is a fun idea, but I'm not sure how well it would work with the style of dress. And I would think it would drastically increase the overall price of your dress!
Have you thought about adding a ribbon to the waist (similar to picture #2)? The picture is small, but it looks like it could handle a ribbon. If you didn't like the ribbon, it's not like you'd ruin the dress.

I am considering adding some lace to my current dress like the Jim Hjelm dress that I really love. I would have to find a REALLY good dressmaker/seamstress to make the changes. From the very beginning of dress shopping, I have always loved loved loved the look of silk/satin with lace overlay. Please give me your honest opinions:
Should I just leave the dress as it is or add the lace overlay?
Do you think that it would looked pieced together if I added it?
Thanks so much hive!!!
