Our ceremony starts at 3pm and will be over at about 3:45 (Catholic wedding ceremony). We are allocating 45mins for guests to mingle and photos, and will start cocktail hour/the reception at 5pm. Our reception venue is a 20 minute drive from our church, but guests will be able to enter the reception room at 4:30 and have something to drink.
Is this okay? I’m unsure whether we should allow more time for photos or if we should start serving the cocktail food and drink earlier than 5pm. Any advice would be appreciated!

@sunshinewish15: I HATE the gap but I think what you have planned is totally acceptable.

I also hate the gap, but this doesn’t seem bad at all! I’m talking about a 3-4 hour gap is what I’m used to. What do you do with all that time as a guest!? lol

I think that is just fine…our ceremony will most likely start at 5 and will be over at 5:30 and our reception starts at 7…..it takes about 30 min to get over there so it will give people some time to mingle for a half hour and then head on out to the venue and should be there by 6:45pm

I think it works. I hate the gap, unless of course there are cocktails. heehee
