Is this normal for wedding photography packages?

@regit45:  20 edited wedding photos? Yeah, that’s not the normal where I’m at in the least. We eloped and we got 150 edited photos PLUS all of those photos in black and white as well as the color.

Is this friend a professional?

That is what my photographer did, also. More than 20, but still a very small percentage out of the whole of the photos. As long as I had the disc its all good.

My photographers (husband and wife team) only edit the 10 best photos. I liked that aspect of it because they spend less time working on my photos, so they were priced accordingly, and my parents are both very skilled at photoshop and image editing since that’s in my stepdad’s field. I would rather see the raw images and ask my parents to edit the ones I’m most interested in. If you don’t know anyone whom you could ask to do that for you, I would ask if he can simply add a small upcharge to the package for more fully edited photos.

@regit45:  We had a flat fee and to our surprise received 1495 pics!! How cool is that?! I was expecting maybe a couple hundred? And they were all edited too. So I’m going to say that 20 is very much so low balling and robbing you of your Wedding Day pics 🙁

Thats not the norm here either. Our photographer edits every photo and we get each pic in color and black & white. We are paying a CRAPLOAD for our photog, but all the other ones I checked out edited all the photos we were given (whether it was all photos taken during the day, or 100  of the best ones) Maybe keep looking? Or maybe because he’s a friend he’ll edit them all for you.

@regit45:  We talked to a photographer who did a similar package.  For him, he does color/exposure/etc. edits of all of the images we get, but does extra editing (skin touchups, etc.) on the “best’ ones.  So all photos are edited, but some are edited to be blown up and put on the wall.

I liked most of them as they were! And LOVED the edited ones, but they were the best ones in general. He said I can choose 20 more of my faves for him to edit, also. If I want to change something on the others I will tweak them a bit myself.

I honestly would go with someone else, or request that he include more pictures.

Is he used to doing weddings? I know some great commercial photographers who have less than impressive wedding photos. It’s just a whole different field than what they’re used to so sometimes the pictures don’t come out as good as you’d hope. I’d hate to see you disappointed just because you want to make a friend happy. :/

@regit45:  Definitely NOT the norm as far as I know. My photographer is editing all the images. If we want MAJOR retouching that’s extra, but we did our engagement shoot, and didn’t need that. We got about 500 edited images, and that’s from our engagement shoot alone (we shot for about 3 hours, and he snapped 2,000 or so pics… I kid you not.)

I would clarify what editing means to them. If it’s heavy retouching, then it’s ok. But if its going through and adjusting minor things, I would not be ok with that. There can be a huge difference between unedited images, and those with very minor fixes.

We’re doing 8 hours of shooting and ALL of the images are edited. Plus we get the CD too. Only 20 pictures being edited? That seems so weird to me, thats hardly anything!
