I’m attending a wedding on November 6, and would appreciate some advice on appropriate dress for the occasion. I haven’t been to a wedding as a guest in several years. The last two I attended I was Matron of Honor and a bridesmaid.
I want to buy a new dress, but there’s a good chance that it won’t happen, so I’m going through what I do have. I don’t have anything long, but it’s in a church with the reception in the same place. The wedding starts at 3 pm.
Anyway, the dress I’m thinking of wearing, I wore to my wedding rehearsal. If it’s too revealing, I can wear something underneath it, though I have no idea what.
The other dress I’m considering is mostly black, with shoulder-width straps, and gray and white detailing around the neck and sash.
The picture’s a little grainy, because I had to crop it from a larger picture. It was the only picture I could find that showed the entire dress, and showed the front. I would plan on wearing the same shoes too.

I think it may be a little too revealing for the church part. Maybe a little cardigan for the ceremony, I think that would be nice.

@pinkb: The revealing part was what was bothering me. I’m very modest most of the time. I don’t have a cardigan, but I think I have some short black half-jackets (do you know what I’m talking about?) somewhere. If not, is there anything I could wear underneath it?
Thank you for your help.

It looks like the straps are too thin for a cami which was my first choice. Could you discreetly pin together at the lowest point?

Consider wearing a scarf during the ceremony. I think it would add a spalsg=h of color and be more fashion forward than a jacket or sweater.

What about attaching a modesty panel to make the dress a little less revealing in the front?, like these on Amazon. They attach right to your bra strap.

I like a wrap. A pashmina in a coordinating color or cardigan.

too late to edit the typo- meant to be “splash”
sorry about that

Thank you for all the ideas, everyone. Unfortunately, I’m pretty limited to what I already own, but I’ll probably be able to make something work.
I probably could pin the dress at the lowest point, but I hate even wearing tank tops in public, so I would need something to cover the shoulders. I do have some pashminas: chocolate brown, dark chocolate brown, white, and tie-dye. I also found two black half-jackets.
I can’t believe I didn’t think of a scarf, especially since I once wore the tie-dye as a cover from the rain once. They aren’t thick, but they do a decent job at keeping away the cold. On top of that, I adore scarves.
Again, thank you. With all these ideas, I’m sure to find something that will work for me.
