I am SO GUILTY! HAHA. Not online but in real life.
acc to dictionary.com….tacky means:
not tasteful or fashionable; dowdy.
shabby in appearance; shoddy: a tacky, jerry-built housing development.
crass; cheaply vulgar; tasteless; crude.
gaudy; flashy; showy.
I only thought it meant the third one or the fourth. Tacky get sso overused and you never know which of the above meanings the sayer actually means.
Yeah maybe you’re right about not using it at all!

From what I hear, the word “tacky” was taboo around here at one point! I’m all for reinstating that!
By the way, your post is oh-so tacky. I look down my nose at you, Magenta. 😛

Love this post!!!
We are planning; well me mostly, our wedding the way we want it. If people think it is tacky, too bad. We want what we want and no one is going to change our minds. Tacky or not 🙂

Hah! So true…tacky is tacky.
Can I say Amen!
I hate when people use the word “tacky”! My wedding isn’t “Tacky” and neither is yours! It may be different but that is ok!
I am all in favour in not using tacky!
Go @magenta! “only bridezillas use the word tacky” 🙂
Post # 14
I agree. Definitely an overused word.
And since I can’t resist…

Sometimes it applies. I think calling someone’s style choice tacky is rude. That being said inappropriate attire/behavior- it is the perfect label!
“and then the bridesmaid barfed on the grooms grandma” – tacky
“it was a good thing the brides thong matched because everyone could see it” –tacky
see photo below. –tacky

We do see posts where hive members ask others, “Is this tacky?” I think that’s totally fine.
The challenge is when one person posts about something and another commenter says, “That is tacky.” That’s a value judgement and sometimes a personal attack, and not cool at all.
We’re not in the habit of banning words… but if someone uses the word “tacky” in a the second way (i.e. as a personal attack) and it’s flagged, we’ll definitely consider deleting the comment!
Personal attacks happen pretty rarely though, which is a testament to the community!
