I honestly would be uncomfortable bc they are so low cut. Maybe there is a way to tie them so its not so revealing?

They remind me of a prom dress my mom had that was green velvet. In the right circumstance they could look nice.

Have you looked at Dessy or Bill Levkoff? They’re both reasonably priced (less than the dresses you posted). Dessy especially has a ton, and some are quite unusual.

@LadyPeace:  Oh I see, well in that case what’s your venue going to be? (I think it will help that you aren’t getting green…maybe that’s just bc of my mom’s old dress being in my mind!)

I like them but I wouldn’t be happy if you expected me to pay $255 for the velvet number.

I could see those dresses in a garden wedding! : )

I’ll be blunt. While I do think they’re kind of pretty, I don’t live in the 19th century, so I would be pretty unhappy about being asked to wear a floor-length burgundy velvet gown. They just look a bit costume-y to me. I can see the appeal. I really can. But I think you should keep looking and see if there isn’t something else you could love just as much.

I am not sure I see velvet working in an outdoor wedding. Velvet makes me thing christmas, new years, and snow. I’d be uncomfortabe with the plunging neckline, but I bet you could pin it higher, or sew a little snap closure in.

I think $225 is a bit much to pay for a long velvet dress. Have you found anything else at all?

I totally applaud the originality of them! Based on the post title, I was all ready to say ‘go for it’ because I too like unconventional bridesmaids looks. However, I’m afraid I’m not sold on the velvet. I agree that it makes me think of Christmas – but also of Juicy Couture tracksuits.

The other dress is gorgeous! I LOVE how it drapes.

Sorry I don’t have any suggestions for you as my bridesmaids will be in short summery dresses so I was on a different type of hunt 🙂

Hmm… I agree the velvet is not really my thing. A bit heavy for an outdoor wedding, even in autumn (is it even cold in florida in October? haha). I like the look of the dresses otherwise, the tops are very unique. I really like the other dress, too. If you really like the velvet I would see how your BMs feel about it.
