That dress is available on discount websites but to answer your question, yes, I feel that $175 is too much to spend on a bridesmaid dress. I won’t ask my girls to spend anymore than $150 on their dresses and even that is pushing it for some of their budgets.

however, in contrast what the PPs are saying. whenever i have been a bridesmaid, my dresses have been in the low $200s.  that is just what they cost in bridal salons.  since discovering sites like house of brides and netbride.com, i will never pay that much again.

I agree that generally $150 is the most I want to spend. Because, with alterations added in, it turns out to be way more than that anyways. Last wedding I was in, I spent $70 in alterations. Could you maybe ask your girls to pay $150 and you’ll pay the difference.

Honestly? You can get the same exact thing at David’s Bridal for $79. Add the sash and peek a boo skirt in green, and the DB dress is almost exactly the same. For half the price.

wow that is the same dress I wanted for my girls!  with that being said, I personally thought it was too expensive and my BM’s actually didn’t think it was.  also, if you buy your dress there, they get $25 off cards to use on their dresses which helps a lot.  BUT, when I had the girls try on those dresses, they were laughing in the rooms and came out and I started laughing too because they looked so bad on.  and that wasn’t me being mean to the girls, I was laughing at myself for liking them before -they hated them ON, but loved the dress in this picture.  Just an FYI so you can make sure they will look good on your girls.  Mine are average sized between sizes 6-12 and they didn’t really look good on anyone, but if you’re girls are thin and/or tall, they would be better!

But, I don’t think that is TOO much, i think it is right there at the top of how much a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress should be and with $25 off it would be even better!  If it’s the perfect Bridesmaid or Best Man dress in your mind, then I’m sure she could figure out a way to save for it, or maybe you can just help out your sis a little

I love the dress. I think its beautiful.  I also think $175 is a bit much to spend on a dress that you would not be able to wear again.  If you really really want that dress and can afford to why don’t you say “This is the dress that i want, I know its kind of on the expensive side, but I will pay for your shoes (or hair & make up the day of).”

That way the girls don’t feel like they are spending all their extra money on your wedding.  If you don’t think that you could spend the extra money on them then I would keep looking for your bm’s dress.

yea if you love it maybe you could pay for part of it…whatever is over what she would consider a reasonable price. I told my girls it would be under 150 but if i find one i like that costs more i will cover the difference.

In my opinion, it’s a lot to spend. I would try to get the cost to around $100. Of course, it depends on how many bridesmaids you have and what their financial situations are, whether they need to travel to come to your wedding, and other costs they might incur (bridal shower, bachelorette party, wedding gift, hair/makeup costs, shoes, etc).  You might also factor in how many times they can re-wear the dress.  I know that you said that the brown/green were not your colors, but if it were, say, black and white perhaps the girls could wear it more than once and it might be more reasonable. But if your colors were, say, Purple and yellow then that’s a different story – still beautiful but less re-wearable.

Where I am from, brides buy the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses so out of 5 weddings I’ve been in, I’ve never had to buy my dress.  The brides have spent anywhere from $60-180 on my dress.

I like the suggestions of the other bees on how to get that dress or a similar dress for cheaper or defray your Bridesmaid or Best Man costs somehow.  Good luck!

I would not be happy paying that much for a bridesmaid dress.  $150 is my max but $100 is better.

You can get it here from bestbridalprices.com  It’s only $127, and has free shipping.  We ordered ours from this website and got them in about 5 weeks, even though they said 12 weeks.  It’s worth looking into to save $50 per dress.

My bridesmaids and I had an agreement that if I fell in love with a dress over $150 I would pay the remainder.  Is that a possibility for you?

But I second the online option.  I ordered a dress that was in some bridal stores for $210 for $125 each including shipping from Canada from netbride.  I would at least contact them for a quote.
