I also want a sort of somber song and my FI says its depressing. But we are having a violinist, so I asked her to pep it up. I'm not comprimising on this song, haha. I AM having it. How are you playing your song? Maybe you can have the musician change it up a little bit?
@Nellular: I was planning on just playing a recording (we don't have a violinist playing anything, sadly) and having the girls walk out beforehand to the quieter parts and walking in 1:37 onward. It just seems so perfect. I would hate to have to find something else since so many times, the picture in my head has been with this song. And I think FI would like it in context, but who knows.
Which song were you going with?
I have a similar issue with my FI. I value his opinion, but sometimes once he sees my ideas come to fruition he understands and likes them. But up until that point he objects because he can't picture it. He just needs me to show him the way. ;) haha. My song is the instrumental version of "One Hand, One Heart" from Westside Story. It's sort of melancholy, but its meaning is so special and perfect for a wedding. Luckily, our friend is a violinist and she'll be working with me to make it work.
@MsTeenyTinyWedding: Thank you. I like that I have two votes for it :))
@Nellular: I love your song choice. I don't think it sounds somber actually. It kind of soars, which I love. He's totally going to appreciate it when he's crying the first time he sees you walking down that aisle :).
Any other opinions?
@LuckyJuls: Aww that's so sweet of you to say. Thanks! I think you are right about that point where it softens up. I say if it speaks or "sings" to you go with it.
And I DON'T want to give you too much to think about, but since the sound on my comp doesn't work, I asked my FI to play it and he commented that he thinks it's one of the most beautiful songs in the world, but that it is very sad. Stupid boys agreeing with eachother. I just wanted to let you know. Have you searched any other versions of the piece?

I have envisioned myself walking down the aisle to Gidon Kremer's version of Oblivion for awhile now. If anyone is familiar or wants to follow the youtube link.

I think it's really powerful and romantic from 1:37 onward, which is what I imagined, but someone said the key it is in makes it somber and FI says it is "dramatic", although I don't think that's a bad thing.
I won't be offended, but do you think this song is too somber? Do you know of another song similar but maybe less "somber"? Thanks for your help :).
