I think it would be great!

But IMO the reception is the fun party time and I would be all for it. If people know your FI and how goofy he is. They will see that during the reception they will feel like the wedding is very personal.

Tackiness is subjective, and who cares anyway? It’s your (as in you two) wedding, and it’s what he wants. Not a big deal! 🙂

I don’t get the joke but I’m not planning a wedding either?  Please explain?

I think it could be funny, if it fits your personalities and they’re big enough to obviously be a joke, and not make you look like lushes.

Is the plan to fill and drain them though? You don’t exactly want to drink half a bottle of champagne at toasting!

Personally, I wouldn’t be able to drink that much champagne!  I kind of think the ridiculously huge glasses would be funny but those just seem like something that someone who likes to drink too much would use.

For the record, I was thinking those huge “PIMP” glasses from novelty stores huge. I don’t think those are bad at all.

I think it is fun! You dont have to fill it up all the way nor do you have to drink more than a sip.. I think the way you present it is key though. Maybe have him pull them out from behind the table or something so people know he is trying to be entertaining- maybe say something funny as he does it and you will probably both laugh naturally.

My humor doesn’t really tend towards the goofy, so the joke would fall really flat to me. Maybe tell him it is on the table, but try to think of something funnier?

But that said, it isn’t a big deal. Some people will think it is funny, I guess, and everyone else will be like, that’s so X.

I don’t think it’s WAY tacky but I feel like your toasts are time to say thank you among other things so maybe keep the joking to a minimum at that time and incorporate his sense of humor into other parts of the wedding.

Happy to help! I think your idea is a good compromise. It lets you make heartfelt sincere speeches but then end with a laugh. I think people would appreciate that.
