No, it’s not weird. As long as it works for most of the people involved in the rehearsal, it’s a fine idea.

@McBezel:  It’s a great idea!  That’s what we’re doing.  I want to be well rested for the big day.

Nope, it’s not weird.  I know that when the time comes for me,I’d want my rest and relaxation in the early evening the night before.  I wouldn’t want a large dinner late the night before.  Do what you want!!

@McBezel:  It’s not weird at all! Anything that helps you relax the night before is a great idea.

I’m going to be a Debbie Downer here. Honestly, I would be kind of pissed if I was a bridesmaid. Think about it from their perspective: They’ve probably already spent several hundred – 2k on dresses, parties, gifts, hair, etc and now you want them to have to use a vacation day and/or lose earning potential because you want to have a lunch? What a huge inconvenience!

@Mrs.LemonDrop:  I agree. It would depend entirely on what day of the week the rehearsal is. A Saturday or Sunday, fine but a weekeday, yeah not going to happen.

Also be mindful that a lot of people and their kids play sport on a Saturday.

I think if you want to have a luncheon that is fine but I think you might need to lower your expectations about who might attend and who might decline. And to not get pissed at those that cannot make it.

Oh I like this idea. I would totally steal it but we will be getting married on a Friday so it wouldn’t work for us.

@Mrs.LemonDrop:  Well if her wedding date is correct, it’s a Sunday, so the rehearsal would be on Saturday

OP: I think it’s fine.  The only reason I wanted to do our rehearsal at the same time as the wedding was so that we and the photographers (family friends) could see the lighting at that time, as it was strange lighting (under redwood trees)

I think that’s fine except it’s so LONG!  Lunch is great.  Lunch that lasts til 5:00 is not great.  My entire reception didn’t last 5 hours.

Since you’re having a Sunday wedding with a Saturday rehearsal, I think it’s fine. (For a Saturday wedding with a Friday rehearsal though, I would say no, definitely not okay).

@McBezel:  Sorry, I didn’t realize it was a Sunday wedding. Yeah, then it wouldn’t be a problem. If it was for a Friday lunch for a Saturday wedding, I wouldn’t be able to come.
