Uplighting on the walls, yes, everything else not important at all to us.

We are doing undertable lights for the head tables to make them glow, though.

Ever since I started watching “My Fair Wedding” years back (even before David Tuterra was a superstar) I always took to heart what he said about uplighting and how it can just transform a room. When we began to search for reception venues uplighting was a “must have” for me. Luckily we found a place that has stunning uplighting that comes with the venue. It might not be important to some people but I feel it really makes a difference in the energy of the room.

    Good luck planning!

@BrideToBe14:  You can always just purchase your own and sell them after the wedding!

We are getting 2 of the 8 packs listed on this website :

They include bulbs & cords.. you just need to get the gel sheets to insert for your colors, I would probably also get some extra bulbs just incase though.

I think it depends on the venue. Lighting can certainly help transform a blah space into something nice. But if you’ve got an awesome space, show it off! We did everything outdoors and we loved the surroundings, so we were happy with sun and basic lighting when it went down! Oh, I guess we did have special lighting because we hugn christmas lights from the trees in our sitting area. But that was mostly functional.

Depends on the venue.  I didn’t need any at my venue, but we did have lighting for the dance floor

@JenGirl:  +1. I think there are lots of places where uplighting isn’t necessary at all, even distracting.

We had an outdoor wedding, and DH loves lighting and tech stuff, so he really wanted a few LED cans. I think he rented 3 or 4 uplights from our DJ, and it turned out really cool – they pointed upwards to illuminate my chalkboard menus and signs that were leaning against the big oak trees.

You can kind of see the uplighting behind our cake table:

There should be a poll option for “Yes, it’s important and I love it but it’s too expensive.”

@BrideToBe14:  Have you looked at veues that come with some sort of uplighting already? Sometimes they may be more for overall rental but could save you money if you went somewhere else without it.

@BrideToBe14:  I am getting married in a place with 360 views of NYC, uplighting will most definitely not be needed.

I don’t think it’s necessary, but I do love it. I’ve never actually been to a wedding that had it and never thought it was missing, but we will have it because it’s part of our DJ’s package. I’m so happy about that! The photos he has from other weddings look fantastic and it really helps with the sort of “ambiance” I think.

@BrideToBe14:  We are having blue uplighting at $500 for them filling the whole room during dancing. Seemed like a no brainer to me – I always wanted it but when I got the pricing from my wedding coordinator I was floored.

Uplighting, highligting, etc., can really create interest and drama in a blank-canvas space.  But if you already have a venue with drama/interest, it can really “cheapen” the space.

Here is a pic of our venue from another wedding.  No uplighting:

And with pink uplighting at another wedding:

Our DJ is really pushing the uplighting, but I don’t want it!  I think it ruins the beautiful room.  It is a matter of personal taste.  But I really just want candlelight and those gorgeous chandeliers to sparkle 🙂
