I was talking with another mom about this today, and I mentioned how my sister had her son a week early, he is now 5 mos old, and I was joking that it gives me hope that I may go a week early as well. She said that actually there have been studies showing that genetically sisters are likely to have similarities when it comes to pregnancies/labor/birth, moreso than their mother. But also it is genetic from the mother.

Well my sister was a week early, and my mom had six kids, all of which were right on time or early (only by about 5-8 days).

Sooo on that information alone, I am likely to have this baby the last week of February (my EDD is 3/1).

What do you ladies/moms think about this? If you have a sister, were you similar to her? How about your mom?

mom also had six kids but each one was different side of spectrum.. her oldest was 2 months early. im the youngest and i was 2 weeks late plus the biggest. 9 pounds 10 ounces.

my kids were also different. first born was one week early induced. second child was 3 weeks early- thank god o he would have been 10 pounds easy. (he was 7 pounds 7 ounces) last baby was 4 days over due- 8 pounds 9 ounces

God, I hope so. My mom had all up about a week and a half to 2 weeks early. I need this one to come 11 days early so she can be born on St. Patty's! lol

Not to mention that I am DONE being pregnant.

@zippylef:  I didn't know you wanted a St. Patty's Day baby!  So do I--I bought her a little outfit just in case she comes early enough to wear it :)

As for the OP, all of my sisters had scheduled C-Sections, so it's hard for me to say.  I sort of hope I don't follow in my Mom's footsteps--with her first baby, the head was out before she got to the hospital.

    No thank you.

They won't let me be like my Mom thank goodness! My due date was July 28th and I wasn't born until August 20th, my sister was also 3 weeks late. Now they would never let that happen.

My sister had her daughter 4 days late and her son 4 days early. So I don't think either of this situations help me to determine anything.

@mwitter80:  Oh my gosh! that is insane... I didn't know they ever let a woman go that late. Were there any post-maturity problems?

@zippylef:  haha ME TOO! If I go two weeks early I could have a V-day baby! One day early and I have a leap day baby. My husband wants leap day lol

My mom was three days late with me. I probably would have been late as well but I was induced at 39 weeks due to some problems (I assume I would have been late because at my 39 week appt I had made NO progress).

My MIL was three weeks early with her first baby, and her daughter was one week early with her son.

I do not think there is any genetic tie regarding when the baby will come, but I am no expert.

My mom was 10 days late with me (she had to be induced) and right on her due date with my sister. Both of my kids were early, one was 2 weeks early and the other was 1 week early, and neither were induced or anything. My sister doesn't have children, so I can't compare to her.

I think it all depends on your body, but that's just my opinion.

@miss-spunkin:  We were both in great health with no issues. We actually were ahead in most cases from a development standpoint. We were big babies though (both almost 10lbs) and my Mom is quite small in stature and she did it natural. eeks!

My mom went weeks early with all of us. I was a few days late with my first and had my second on her due date. I think it varies person to person.

My mom had all of us 1-3 months early; my sister was induced (and eventually had a c-section) a week overdue with my nephew; I had DD about a week early.  I don't think it's genetic, but I am really hoping baby #2 follows suit with DD.  :)  I would love to be about a week early again.

My Mom was all over the map, I was first and was on my due date, sister #2 was 10 days late and was born (without induction) on the day she was scheduled to be induced, and sister #3 was 2 weeks early, but labour needed a little augmentation because it slowed.

I am the first of my sisters to be pregnant, so we won't be able to test the sister theory for a long time!

No sisters, but my mom had three kids. 14 days, 10 days, and 14 days late respectively. I had my LO on my due date. I did take after her and have a fast labor though!
